Duffer Brothers Say ‘Stranger Things’ Cast Hasn’t Aged as Much as Fans Think

The creators of the hit show Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, have responded to fan comments about how much the actors have grown up over the years.

Ever since the show debuted on Netflix in 2016, many viewers have commented on how much the young actors have grown up, particularly those who were children when the series began. However, creators Ross and Matt Duffer say the changes aren’t as dramatic as some people believe.

Matt Duffer explained that the show doesn’t always portray time linearly, and viewers often don’t notice. He pointed to the ‘Dear Billy’ episode in Season 4 as an example, revealing that the scenes showing Sadie Sink’s character spending a year in the basement were filmed at the very beginning and end of the season. Surprisingly, no one has ever realized this detail, despite it representing a full year of time passing for her character.

The Duffer brothers discussed how the demands of filming and the passage of time impact the actors. Ross Duffer quipped that it’s been difficult to keep track of time since the first season, and Matt explained that, for the characters, time sometimes passes even faster than it does in real life. He playfully suggested that the strange energy of the Upside Down seems to have sped up everyone’s aging process.

We’ve also noticed changes in the voices of some of the younger actors. For example, Jake Connelly, who recently joined the cast, has developed a much deeper voice since filming began. Fortunately, we can use audio equalization technology to adjust for this. We checked it out today and everything sounds good – we were a little concerned at first, but it’s all working out.

Viewers often playfully comment on how much the actors have aged, since many started as kids and are now teens or young adults. While this points to the show’s long run, the creators, the Duffer brothers, explain that the actual changes aren’t as noticeable as people believe.

The new season premiered in Los Angeles on November 6th and will be released in three parts. The first part, with four episodes, arrives on November 26th. A second part with three episodes will be released on December 25th, and the final episodes will conclude the season on December 31st.
