After coming to an agreement with the media company, Toronto-based rapper Drake has decided to withdraw his legal challenge against iHeartMedia.
This action follows iHeartMedia submitting evidence that they had no role in a supposed pay-for-play scandal involving Kendrick Lamar’s song Not Like Us. Meanwhile, Drake persists with his legal disputes against Universal Music Group (UMG).
In November 2024, Drake first submitted a complaint against both iHeartMedia and UMG. He claimed that these companies collaborated in a strategy to boost the airplay of their song, “Not Like Us.
It was alleged that UMG secretly paid iHeartMedia in order to increase a song’s radio playtime excessively, which tarnished his reputation. Yet, Rolling Stone stated on March 3 that iHeartMedia was no longer involved in this particular case.
As reported by a company representative, “Drake consented to withdraw his lawsuit in return for documents proving iHeartMedia’s innocence. No money was exchanged by either party.” The court records obtained by USA Today verify that iHeartMedia is no longer involved in Drake’s legal proceedings.
As a dedicated follower, I should clarify that contrary to their claim, Drake’s team has contested iHeartMedia’s assertion. A representative communicated this to Hot New HipHop, stating, “To date, iHeartMedia has not presented a single document to Drake, nor any evidence that suggests they were in the right.
Later on, I acknowledged their statement, expressing my viewpoint thusly: “The back-and-forth exchange seems rather pointless to me. Drake has already withdrawn his petition. In our books, no wrongdoing was committed. Case closed.
The legal papers clearly indicated that Drake and iHeartMedia had come to a mutually agreeable end to their disagreement, which pleased both parties. Since it was a settled matter with prejudice, Drake is no longer able to bring another lawsuit against iHeartMedia.
Although iHeartMedia has stepped back, Drake continues to take legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG). His petition in Texas is ongoing, alleging that the record label intentionally promoted a song in which he was falsely labeled as a “pedophile.” In addition, Drake filed a separate defamation lawsuit against UMG in New York back in January 2025.
UMG is seeking to have the Texas petition dismissed, and they’ve got until March 16th to file their motion. At present, a pretrial hearing for the defamation case was planned for April 2nd, but UMG has attempted to push back that date.
Drake’s lawyers argued against the postponement, stating that it wouldn’t be fair for their client, as he’s still coping with the aftermath of UMG’s supposedly defamatory actions, according to them.
