Dragon Quest X Offline Goes Mobile in Japan but Stays Out of Reach Globally

Starting from January 15, 2025, Square Enix has made the offline version of Dragon Quest X accessible on Android and iOS devices within Japan.

This game typically costs 2,800 yen, which is about $17.73, but it’s currently on a special offer for only 1,960 yen or approximately $12.41 until January 28th, 2025.

A storybook expansion called “The Slumbering Champion and the Wise Companion,” launched in May 2023, can be purchased for 2,400 yen (approximately $15.19), but will be reduced to 1,920 yen (around $12.16) during the same sale period.

Initially released in September 2022, Dragon Quest X Offline is available across platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. This standalone version delivers a single-player experience modeled after the 2012 MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), Dragon Quest X.

This game offers a player-controlled hero you can personalize, along with recruitable teammates, delivering a classic role-playing adventure feel.

As of now, Square Enix doesn’t intend to translate or release Dragon Quest X Offline for markets beyond Japan.

Apart from its traditional version, Square Enix had earlier created a mobile edition of Dragon Quest X Online in partnership with NTT DoCoMo. This mobile version, launched using cloud streaming services in December 2013, was not a standalone app but rather an online service.

If you’re curious, it is now possible to download the offline version of Dragon Quest X directly from the Japanese Google Play Store on Android devices and from the Apple App Store for iOS devices.

With this mobile launch, gamers can now delve into the captivating narrative and traditional RPG aspects of the game wherever they are, as the realm of Astoltia becomes easily accessible right at their fingertips.

As long as the game is only available in Japan, having it accessible on various platforms like smartphones ensures that Japanese players can enjoy the game’s thrilling journey at their convenience, no matter where they are.

As of now, there is no information regarding a potential release in other regions.

As a gamer eagerly waiting beyond Japan’s borders, I can only hope and patiently anticipate whether Square Enix chooses to share the offline version of Dragon Quest X with a global audience in the days ahead.
