When it comes to accurately portraying cultures, Dwayne Johnson and the Moana production team have carefully chosen Samoan actors for the roles. This is an exciting opportunity for Colby, as working on such a prestigious project and representing her Hawaiian heritage is a cherished goal.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the transgender activist shared her desire to be a part of the live-action Moana production team, expressing her excitement about potentially contributing to such a high-profile project that represents her culture. She mentioned having discussed this opportunity with producers Auli’i Cravalho, who is both an actress and executive producer in the film. “I hope I can be involved,” she expressed, adding, “It would be incredible to work with them!”

Colby remembered their encounter at the May event in Los Angeles, where they both took part in a discussion on Pacific Islander women in the entertainment industry. They talked about the upcoming animated and live-action versions of Moana during this occasion.

She expressed her strong desire for the production to authentically reflect Polynesian and Pacific cultures. It would be an amazing opportunity for her to be part of such a high-profile film that celebrates her heritage.

In an interview with EW in 2023, the activist and model shared her experience of forming a deep spiritual bond with those who held significant influence over her. Her unique identity played a pivotal role in this connection. “This link took me back to my heritage, my community, and enlightened me about the third gender that was prevalent in Hawaiian traditions and customs,” she expressed.

Colby looked back with pride at her family’s past, which embraced and included individuals identified as queer. In times of war between various tribes, the soldiers would depart, leaving their kids under the watchful care of the Māhūs – the community’s valued and essential queer members.

“Colby expressed a deep connection to the idea that something which transcends the divisions of male and female is inherently divine. He has always felt drawn to this concept.”

Following her win as a Drag queen, she has pursued various artistic projects. More recently, she graced the screen in Paramount’s movie adaptation of Mean Girls: The Musical.
