At last, after a considerable wait, it’s Boichi, the mastermind behind Dr. Stone, who is about to debut a fresh manga. After three long years, we’re eagerly anticipating the return of his remarkable artistry in our reading schedule once more.
Shueisha has announced that Boichi’s forthcoming work titled “The Marshal King” is due for release this coming week. This will mark his comeback as both the author and artist of a series, a role he hasn’t assumed in quite some time. The upcoming manga will debut in Shonen Jump+ and will be accessible on Manga Plus in English and Spanish from February 7, 2025.
The announcement revealed a sneak peek featuring a young man with long hair, donning a cowboy hat and holsters in his belt, suggesting a mysterious character. The backdrop seems to be reminiscent of the Wild West era, offering a refreshing contrast to the futuristic motifs typically seen in the series known as Dr. Stone.
As a cinephile taking note, some astute viewers have already noticed a resemblance in the silhouette to that of Stanley Snyder’s style, but let us refrain from jumping to conclusions about their similarities until we see more.
I’ve noticed that this movie has a look similar to Stanley Snyder’s work, but it remains to be seen how much they truly resemble each other.
As the final season of the “Dr. Stone” anime is currently airing, there’s a sense of nostalgia among fans who have finished reading the original manga, which concluded in March 2022 after 232 chapters. The timing of Boichi’s return couldn’t be more perfect, offering us fresh content to explore while still immersing ourselves in his distinctive art style.
As stated in the Weekly Shonen Jump, the series titled “The Marshal King” revolves around a character named Jim Godspeed, who is the son of the infamous outlaw M. Godspeed. For reasons yet unexplained, Jim takes his father’s life and embarks on a journey across the desert with his father’s body. This haunting opening scene establishes an intense and emotional narrative from the very start.
Boichi is recognized for his dynamic action sequences, intricately designed characters, and exhilarating fight scenes. Given the impressive visuals and gripping narrative of Dr. Stone, it’s reasonable to anticipate that The Marshal King will also be filled with stunning imagery and engaging storytelling.
Boichi is not only known for his artistic skills but has also shown his writing prowess in the past. For instance, his manga “Sun-Ken Rock” which started in 2006, ran for more than a decade. He also penned “Origin”, a series that concluded in 2019 after ten volumes. Given this background, it’s clear that his upcoming story will undoubtedly be rich and profound like his previous works.
