‘Don’t Think I Was…’: Here’s Why Zendaya Never Watched Dancing With The Stars Since Being On The Show

As a dedicated follower of Zendaya’s career, I find it both fascinating and heartwarming to witness her journey from a talented Disney Channel star to a celebrated actress and singer. Her recent confession about not watching Dancing With the Stars since her time on the show in 2013 resonates deeply with me.

Star Zendaya recently shared an unexpected revelation! In a recent episode of Entertainment Weekly’s The Awards podcast, she opened up about her time participating on Dancing With the Stars.

She admitted that she’s been absent from watching the popular dance contest show since her participation ended, and there’s a valid explanation behind this.

Zendaya, chuckling, shares that it has been since her time on the show when she last watched “Dancing With the Stars.” She also mentions that she hadn’t previously watched “Dancing With the Stars” before joining the cast.

Additionally, she disclosed that she felt herself not being the intended audience for the program, finding it rather distressing. Yet, she confessed that her grandfather was a big fan of the show.

16-year-old Zendaya participated in season 16 of Dancing with the Stars way back in 2013. At that time, she was already a well-known Disney Channel star due to her roles in Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. Although they didn’t win, Zendaya and her dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy came very close, taking the second place position, while Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough claimed the first place victory with the mirror ball trophy.

Currently, she is a renowned actress, having earned two Emmys for her performance as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria and generating discussions for an Oscar due to her portrayal of tennis coach Tashi Duncan in Luca Guadagnino’s provocative sports drama, Challengers.

The sense of familiarity arose when Zendaya’s Emmy victory turned out to be just as Val Chmerkovskiy had foreseen. In the year 2020, Zendaya received her first Emmy, and Chmerkovskiy took to Instagram to celebrate. He expressed his conviction that she would eventually win an Oscar.

Approximately eight years ago, it was my privilege to instruct a remarkably talented young lady in ballroom dancing on @dancingabc. Following our best efforts, we placed second. Overwhelmed by the disappointment, I recall telling her that someday she’d win an Oscar, and one reason for that success would be the sense of defeat she was experiencing at that moment. As per EW, he made this statement later on.

Regardless of whether she has won a Grammy like an Oscar, Chmerkovskiy has consistently believed that she is extraordinarily gifted and unique. He expressed his pride in her accomplishments.
