Don’t Miss the Epic Minecraft Movie Streaming on HBO Max This June!

Starting this Friday, June 20, the global premiere of the Minecraft Movie takes place on Max. The following day, on Saturday, June 21, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, it will air on HBO’s traditional channel. Simultaneously, an American Sign Language (ASL) version by Sophia Morales will be available on Max as well.

The movie has earned more than $951 million globally, while viewers have given it a 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Live-Action Adaptation of the Game

For the very first time, the most popular video game ever created, Minecraft, is being brought to life on screen. The film is helmed by Jared Hess, who previously directed Nacho Libre, and it features Jason Momoa playing Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, while Jack Black takes on the role of Steve, the character from the original game.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Emma Myers (from Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Hansen (Lisey’s Story), and Jennifer Coolidge are joining our adventure! Our tale unfolds as a quartet of us who find ourselves inexplicably transported into the Overworld, a unique realm that resembles a cube-like dimension. In this strange new world, we must quickly adapt to survive, and more importantly, defend it against formidable adversaries such as Piglins and Zombies.

Production and Creative Team

The film was directed by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener & Gavin James, and Chris Galletta from a screenplay they wrote, based on a story idea by Allison Schroeder and the same trio. The producers are Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Vu Bui. Additionally, Todd Hallowell, Jay Ashenfelter, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jon Spaihts serve as executive producers.
