As a lifestyle expert reflecting on Julianne Hough‘s journey, I find her story incredibly inspiring and enlightening. Her courage to openly embrace her sexuality and challenge societal norms is commendable. She has shown us that love transcends labels and boundaries, and it’s all about finding connections with people who resonate with our inner beauty.
Currently, Julianne Hough is taking a moment to look back on the period over five years past when she shared her sexuality openly with the world. Back in 2019, this popular host of “Dancing With The Stars” made her initial public announcement that she identifies as not straight.
On August 27th, Tuesday, the 36-year-old performer, screen personality, and presenter featured on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast. During the conversation, she discussed the impact that her revealing interview in the 2019 Women’s Health magazine about being part of the LGBTQ+ community has had on her life.
Hough openly acknowledged that the act of revealing her identity was equally exposing and uplifting. She underscored that her journey wasn’t about conforming to specific identities like straight, gay, bisexual, or queer, but rather about love in a more comprehensive context, preferring not to be tied down by labels.
She explained that she had come to understand that she has feelings for people regardless of their sex and is more interested in their inner beauty rather than their sexuality. She declared, “It’s more about, ‘I think I’m just learning what love is, and I love people. I don’t know what I’m attracted to, but I choose you.'”
In August 2019, Hough had an interview with Women’s Health about her relationship with her former spouse, NHL player Brooks Laich. During the conversation, she expressed that she was learning more about herself and disclosed to her husband that she wasn’t exclusively straight but still wanted to be with him. This revelation appeared to strengthen their connection even further.
Hough shared an account of her husband creating a safe space where she could openly express her feelings, free from fear of judgment related to the guilt and restrictions she had buried deep within, thanks to her upbringing, despite feeling internally ashamed.
After her 2020 divorce from Laich, Hough has been open about the challenges in their relationship. Recently, on Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, she discussed the growth they’ve both experienced regarding their awareness of not being together anymore.
She said, “We regret that things didn’t last because I’ve always encountered exceptional individuals.” Despite their disappointment over the failed marriage, Hough believes that the relationship was suitable for its time, but they both may have been too immature to maintain its longevity.
Shortly following the publication of her article in Women’s Health, Julianne Hough expressed her gratitude during an interview with Extra, stating how fortunate she felt to have her friends, family, and fans offer their support. “I consider myself incredibly lucky, as many individuals without the same platform or backing aren’t so fortunate,” she added. “To express my heartfelt appreciation, I want to say that I am extremely grateful for my family, friends, and the unwavering support from all of my fans.”
Expressing her appreciation, she spoke about desiring similar assistance for those within the LGBTQ+ community who currently lack it.
