Donald Glover told fans during his performance at the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 22nd, that he’s been dealing with a health issue.
The artist shared that he had a stroke last year, leading him to put his The New World Tour on hold and ultimately cancel the remaining shows. The concert was broadcast live on Amazon Music.
Glover shared with the audience that while on tour, he experienced a severe headache in Louisiana but continued with the show. When he arrived in Houston, he went to the hospital and discovered he’d had a stroke. He said he was enjoying the tour and seeing his fans before the incident.
He confessed his initial reaction was disappointment about letting his fans down, playfully adding that worrying about being compared to Jamie Foxx was a distant second. “My first thought was just, ‘I’m letting everyone down,’ but I know that’s not really the case,” he explained.
After postponing his tour a month earlier, Glover ultimately cancelled the remaining shows to concentrate on getting better. He discovered he had a serious heart problem, explaining, “I’d broken my foot, and then doctors found a hole in my heart. I ended up needing two surgeries. They say you truly live when you realize life is precious, and you only get one. I’ve been so lucky to share my life and perform for all of you, and I’m incredibly grateful.”
Donald Glover is returning to acting and will once again play Troy Barnes in the upcoming Community movie, now that he’s performing on stage again.
