Having grown up with the Captain Underpants series, I was captivated by the quirky humor and endearing characters that Pilkey brought to life.

In simple terms, Dog Man, a beloved character from children’s books, is set to star in his own movie coming to theaters in early 2025. Prior to its grand premiere, Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have shared a fresh trailer, offering a sneak peek to the audience.

2016’s Dog Man is a film adaptation from the popular book series penned by Dav Pilkey, best known for his Captain Underpants creations. The story revolves around a devoted police dog and his human partner in uniform. Notable actors such as Pete Davidson, Billy Boyd, Ricky Gervais, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, and Lil Rel Howery will all be providing voices for the movie.

This upcoming film is the latest creation from DreamWorks Animation, famous for hit series like How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda. To enhance depth perception, the animation style in this movie is similar to the illustrations seen in the books.

Based on the official summary, Dog Man is formed following an accidental yet lifesaving operation that combines a dedicated police dog and his human police officer owner, both injured while on duty.

The situation gets trickier when Lil Petey unexpectedly forms an alliance with Dog Man. Initially unwilling partners, Dog Man and Petey find themselves in a thrilling race against time to rescue the kitten Lil Petey from their shared adversary. Along the way, they discover that even bitterest enemies can find common ground, especially when family (and cats!) are involved.

Back in 2016, the Dog Man book collection was introduced to readers. Since then, an astounding number of over 60 million copies have been purchased worldwide, and there are now a dozen books in the series available. On December 3rd, the next adventure in the series, titled “Dog Man: Big Jim Begins,” is set for publication.
