On Saturday, April 19th, the latest episode of “Doctor Who,” titled “Lux,” experienced relatively low initial viewership on BBC One. A mere 1.58 million viewers tuned in to catch it, marking a record-low for the series and the first time the overnight audience dipped below the 2 million viewer threshold.
Compared to last week’s episode, “The Robot Revolution,” which drew approximately 2 million viewers, the audience for “Lux” was relatively small, ranking fourth in viewership on BBC One that day. The news program “News at Ten,” “Casualty,” and “Blankety Blank” all attracted more viewers than “Lux.
However, it’s important to note that these figures represent only those who tuned in during the live television broadcast. Many individuals now prefer to watch shows at a later time via platforms like BBC iPlayer, on mobile devices, tablets, or smart TVs. The comprehensive numbers, known as “consolidated ratings,” will be released at a later date.
Despite having fewer viewers initially, those who tuned in appeared to enjoy the show immensely. This particular episode introduced an eerie animated antagonist, Mr Ring-a-Ding, lent voice by the talented Alan Cumming. Most spectators found him both entertaining and unsettling.
In the captivating world of Lux, I found myself embarking on a journey to Miami during the year 1952, alongside the enigmatic Doctor and the charming Belinda. We stumbled upon a haunting mystery concealed within the walls of an abandoned movie theater, a chilling secret that seemed to pulse from its very foundations. Accompanying us in this intriguing tale were the talented Cumming and other distinguished guest stars, such as Linus Roache, Lewis Cornay, and the enigmatic Anita Dobson portraying the character of Mrs Flood, whose true intentions remained shrouded in mystery.
In the upcoming episode titled “The Well“, the Doctor finds themselves on a desolate mining settlement from the distant future. Here, they encounter the solitary survivor who remains.
Doctor Who was also competing with Britain’s Got Talent on ITV1, which had more viewers that night.
