It’s reported that the traditional Doctor Who Christmas Special will not be airing this year, with Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor in the Season 2 lineup.
On Wednesday, I discussed with you all that as per some users on X, Disney+ is not progressing with Doctor Who Season 3. Interestingly, one of these users mentioned that well-known YouTuber Nerdrotic has stated they haven’t secured a Christmas special yet.
“Christmas special won’t be happening”
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing the news that the much-anticipated Doctor Who Christmas Special has reportedly been canceled by The Sun, owing to lackluster audience ratings in the UK.
According to reports in The Sun, there’s quite a bit of doubt about the future of Doctor Who, and it seems that the traditional Christmas special might be cancelled this year.
According to the source, it appeared that the episode was not given the green light for production. There were undoubtedly expectations that a new season would follow, including a special holiday installment.
According to the update on the site, “Things remain uncertain as far as whether Ncuti will return for another season, and even bosses aren’t sure if they can manage to produce a new episode in time for Christmas Day.
It seems that, as usual, the Christmas Special was supposed to be filmed a year ahead, however, it appears that this wasn’t carried out.
Ncuti Gatwa reportedly quit
The news concerning the cancellation of the “Doctor Who” Christmas Special comes after rumors that Ncuti Gatwa left due to concerns over damaging his career prospects. It’s been suggested that he intends to relocate to Los Angeles for upcoming ventures. According to “The Sun,” his associates are fully aware of the potential negative reactions.
During Chris Chibnall’s and Jodie Whittaker’s tenure, the viewership for ‘Doctor Who’ dropped dramatically. They reintroduced David Tennant for three specials, but these were his least-watched productions throughout his career. However, under the return of Russell T Davies as showrunner and Gatwa, ‘Doctor Who’ has achieved its lowest ratings in its 60-year run.
Reports suggest that the long-running series “Doctor Who” might be temporarily paused for a period of 5 to 10 years, but BBC has refuted these early claims stating that it’s not true the show has been put on hold.
Contrary to some rumors, the show “Doctor Who” has not been permanently discontinued. The fate of season 3 will be determined following the broadcast of season 2. In our original agreement with Disney+, there were plans for 26 episodes in total, and we’ve already aired half of those. As for speculation about future seasons and the Doctor’s storylines, we typically don’t discuss those matters publicly.
