As a longtime fan of comic books and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must say that this year’s SDCC announcement about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has left me utterly thrilled! The prospect of Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom is beyond exciting, and it seems the MCU is ready to explore a villain even more formidable than Thanos – Victor von Doom himself.
2021’s San Diego Comic-Con has been brimming with unexpected revelations! It turns out that the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movie will now be known as ‘Avengers: End of All,’ with Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the shoes of Doctor Doom. It seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is planning to divert its attention from Kang the Conqueror as the primary villain in the Multiverse Storyline towards a danger that’s even more formidable: Victor von Doom.
1. Following ‘Endgame,’ some fans worried that the Marvel Cinematic Universe might struggle to present a villain as formidable as Thanos. Nonetheless, the comics offer strong indications that Doctor Doom could prove to be more perilous than Thanos had been.
In “Secret Wars #8” (2015), we witness Doctor Doom’s extraordinary might, yet it’s crucial to note that this portrayal of Doom deviates from the norm. Here, Doctor Doom assumes the role of God-Emperor Doom, having seized the power of the Beyonders.
Following the “Time Runs Out” saga’s catastrophic ending where reality was shattered, Doctor Doom harnessed the Beyonder’s power to create a new reality from the fragments of the old ones. He named this new realm Battleworld and assumed the title of God-Emperor Doom. By his side as regent was Stephen Strange, now Sheriff, while the Foundation served as his left hand in governing this new world.
As a gamer, I’ve always found Battleworld to be an intriguingly peaceful realm. But deep down, I, Doom, felt something was amiss. I saw myself as the realm’s greatest imperfection, never fully content with its tranquility. Then, one fateful day, we uncovered shocking truths about our own origins and Battleworld’s history. These revelations ignited a wave of insurrections among the inhabitants.
As a gamer, I once encountered an unexpected adversary in the form of Thanos. His goal was to overthrow me, the mighty Doom. Intrigued by this powerful foe, I offered him a proposition: if Thanos agreed to cease his attacks on me and abandon his quest to dethrone me, he could keep his treasure hoard and rule over his lands peacefully.
Thanos took great offense to Doom’s proposal, reminding himself of his divine background and the immense power bestowed upon him by the Infinity Gauntlet. He viewed Doom as a fraudulent deity and invited him to pay homage instead.
Instead of tearing Thanos’s skeleton out of his body after he had discarded the Gauntlet, Doom left Thanos as a horribly mutilated and lifeless corpse.
The battle between Thanos and Doom was surprisingly short-lived, with Doom catching Thanos off guard and responding swiftly and brutally.
As someone who has followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe closely for years, I must admit that this ongoing battle between Doctor Doom and a Thanos variant is nothing short of captivating. The sheer power these characters possess is both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
