Disney’s Star Wars Hotel Goes Galactic to Corporate: Here’s Why It Failed!

As a passionate film enthusiast, it’s with a heavy heart that I share the news about Disney’s one-of-a-kind space adventure-themed hotel, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Sadly, it seems this extraordinary immersive experience, which had only been open for a brief two years, won’t be reopening its doors again.

For those who were hoping for a new attraction or eatery inspired by the Star Wars universe, I regret to inform you that the building is off-limits to guests. Instead, it looks like Disney is planning to transform this iconic vessel into office spaces, as reported by TheWrap.

It’s quite astonishing that the news about Disney’s luxury hotel, rumored to cost anywhere from $350 million to $1 billion, has fallen short of expectations. The mistake Disney made was presuming die-hard Star Wars fans would empty their savings for a stay at this hotel (TopMob had a chance to preview the Galactic Starcruiser before its grand opening).

The initial price for accommodating just two guests for a span of two nights was an astonishing $4,802. For a family of four, it began at $5,999. To put it humorously, the prices were so high they seemed to be in outer space… Nevertheless, Disney’s creative minds are planning to transform this building into office spaces for their research and development tasks related to the company’s theme parks, hotels, and cruise lines.

The hotel began operation in March 2022 but closed down by September 2023. Although Disney worked to keep the closure under wraps, in May 2024, YouTube user Jenny Nicholson posted a video lasting four hours that gained widespread attention, eventually attracting more than 11 million views.

Reports close to Disney indicate that a refurbished structure will serve as the primary hub for upcoming Disney projects. These ventures encompass the new “Cars” and villain-focused lands in Magic Kingdom, along with the “Monsters, Inc.” area in Hollywood Studios, featuring a door chase roller coaster. Regrettably, to accommodate the roller coaster, “Muppet*Vision 3D” has had to shut down. Personally, I’m heartbroken to see one of the few havens from prolonged attraction queues disappear.

In other words, you should not anticipate significant changes or development in this area for quite some time, as all the ongoing projects are still years away from completion, and for now, it’s likely to consist mainly of corporate offices.
