Disney’s Snow White Flops: Producer’s Son Blames Rachel Zegler for Box Office Disaster!

The situation for Disney has deteriorated further due to a producer’s son openly criticizing actress Rachel Zegler, alleging that her role in the Snow White movie was responsible for its lackluster ticket sales.

What happened?

It was recently reported by Variety that, upon Disney’s request, producer Marc Platt traveled to New York City in August to discuss with Rachel Zegler the removal of a “Free Palestine” comment she posted alongside the trailer for Snow White.

After the article’s release, supporters of Zegler tracked down Jonah Platt on Instagram and criticized his father, Marc Platt, labeling him “extremely creepy” and claiming that his efforts to oversee Zegler’s social media activity were unwarranted.

Jonah Platt responds

Jonah Platt, who is the host of the “Being Jewish” podcast, responded in a since-deleted comment: “Indeed, you’re asking for trouble. My father, the producer of a significant Disney intellectual property with hundreds of millions at stake, had to abandon his family to travel cross-country to rebuke a 20-year-old employee for intertwining her political views with the promotion of a movie she agreed to promote and do publicity for under a multi-million dollar contract.

He went on to explain: “This situation involves adult responsibility and accountability. Her actions significantly impacted the film’s earnings. While free speech allows for expression, it doesn’t grant immunity from consequences in a professional setting. Many thousands of individuals contributed to that movie, and she exploited the discussion for her personal, immature whims, potentially jeopardizing everyone who relies on this movie’s success – cast members, crew, and blue-collar workers alike. Indulging narcissism is not something to be indulged or supported.

Snow White bombs

Last weekend saw the debut of “Snow White,” but it flopped at the box office. The movie earned significantly less than anticipated and didn’t garner positive feedback from either critics or audiences. A recent report suggests that Disney could potentially suffer losses of around $200 million due to this film.

The movie’s Rotten Tomatoes critique rating stands at 42%, but its audience score is higher at 74%. Its CinemaScore is graded as B+, while its IMDb rating currently hovers around 1.7.

It’s estimated that the budget for this project will be approximately $400 million after changes, additional filming, and promotional expenses. In contrast, the movie Snow White earned less than $100 million globally and just $42.2 million in the U.S. during its debut.
