Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot is officially moving forward.
Hulu has approved a pilot episode for the project, and Danielle Deadwyler will star as one of the leads. The series is a production of Onyx Collective and 20th Television, created as part of Ryan Coogler’s agreement with Disney.

Danielle Deadwyler Cast as FBI Co-Lead
Danielle Deadwyler, famous for her role in The Piano Lesson, will play one of two FBI agents – both highly accomplished, but with very different backgrounds and approaches.
They formed an unexpected connection while working together in a forgotten department that looked into strange and mysterious events.
Ryan Coogler is both writing and directing the pilot episode. Casting is being managed by Francine Maisler, who also worked on the show Sinners.

New Showrunner Boards the X-Files Reboot
Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) has come aboard as showrunner and executive producer.
The show’s executive producers are Chris Carter, the original creator of The X-Files, along with Michael B. Jordan, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler through their company, Proximity Media. Simone Harris is a co-executive producer.
This pilot episode marks the end of a three-year effort to revive the show, and it’s part of a larger five-year agreement director Ryan Coogler has with Disney for creating television content.

Diverse cast
Carter first revealed in 2023 that Coogler planned to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast.
Coogler later confirmed the project and teased the tone.
He said he’d been looking forward to the project for a while and was enthusiastic about starting again. He also hinted that some of the episodes, if the team succeeded, would be genuinely terrifying.
He added that the goal is to satisfy longtime fans while attracting new viewers.
Coogler also mentioned he’s talked to Gillian Anderson, who starred in the original series, about the reboot. However, they haven’t confirmed whether any actors from the original will return.
