Disney+ Reveals Its Most Watched Movie of 2025 With Over 80 Million Views

New numbers from Nielsen show that Moana 2 is the top movie people have streamed this year.

Disney+ subscribers watched the film for an impressive 7.227 billion minutes in 2025, making it the most-watched title so far this year compared to other popular films on platforms like Netflix and those featuring Despicable Me 4. Considering we’re only halfway through the year, this is a particularly noteworthy accomplishment.

Moana 2 premiered in late 2024 and was an immediate success in theaters, surpassing expectations and earning over $1 billion worldwide. While the first Moana film made over $600 million globally, the sequel almost doubled that amount. It later became available on Disney+, reaching an even wider audience.

I have to say, I’m really enjoying Moana 2! It’s true that critics seem a bit split on it – the first Moana was a huge hit and everyone loved how fresh it was. This one’s getting a mixed response from reviewers, currently around 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. But honestly, the fans get it! We’re giving it an 86% rating, and I think that shows how much the story is resonating with people like me. It’s a feel-good movie, and that’s what matters!

The new animated movie features the return of Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Picking up a few years after the original film, it follows Moana as she teams up with Maui and a new group of friends to find a mysterious lost island and save the ocean. Originally intended as a Disney+ show, it’s now hitting theaters as a full-length movie.

Moana 2 had its first showing in Hawaii in November 2024 and quickly came to U.S. theaters. It became the third-highest-grossing film of the year and was nominated for a Golden Globe as the best animated feature. Financial reports later confirmed it was also one of the most profitable movies released that year.
