I’m really excited to hear Disney is developing a new film called Aurora! From what I understand, it’s going to be a completely new spin on the Sleeping Beauty tale we all know and love. It sounds like they’re aiming for something fresh and different, which is great!
Film insider Daniel Richtman reports that the next movie will retell the classic fairy tale, but this time set in Mexico.
While Disney hasn’t made an official announcement, Richtman has a good track record of reporting accurate information, particularly about projects that are still being developed.

Okay, let’s talk about Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. This classic first came out way back in 1959, and it’s remained a beloved animated film ever since. The story centers around Princess Aurora, who’s unfortunately put under a powerful curse that sends her into a deep slumber. Of course, the tale wouldn’t be complete without a hero – and in this case, it’s true love’s kiss that finally breaks the spell!
Disney’s Maleficent movies, starring Angelina Jolie, retold the story from the villain’s point of view, offering a fresh take on the classic tale.
If Disney actually makes Aurora, it would continue the trend of reimagining its classic stories with a focus on diverse cultures and fresh creativity. Placing the story in Mexico has the potential to give it a distinct cultural feel and visual look, differentiating it from previous versions of the tale.
