I’m sharing some news that suggests I’ve heard Disney has decided against premiering “Snow White” in the UK, allegedly to steer clear of any potential controversy and maintain control over Rachel Zegler‘s roles. However, it’s important to remember that rumors can sometimes be unfounded or misleading, so let’s keep an open mind about this until official confirmation arrives.
According to the Daily Mail, although there’s a possibility of a U.S. debut, the initial UK showing has been called off. Instead, there will only be limited press gatherings with strict control over attendance.
Disney produced “Snow White” in London for around $250 million, leading to anticipation of a grand UK red carpet premiere. However, it’s likely that such controlled press events will involve pre-approved questions from selected media and steer clear of controversial topics. By skipping the red carpet premiere, Rachel Zegler can avoid interacting with the media in an unscripted setting, potentially sparing herself from any potential issues.
London premiere canceled
According to insiders for the Daily Mail:
Disney expects a potential backlash from those critical of its ‘woke’ approach with Snow White, so they’ve scaled down their media exposure to only a few carefully managed press interactions.
They’ve opted for an uncommon approach, choosing not to hold a London premiere for the movie, and limiting the number of interview queries addressed to Rachel Zegler.
The controversy
A variety of debates have arisen concerning the film adaptation of “Snow White,” encompassing Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and other aspects. The discussions also focus on Disney’s decision to use animated rather than real actors for the seven dwarfs and their omission from the title.
Concerning Rachel Zegler, it seems like her casting could be part of Disney’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), given that she is of Latino heritage. Some speculate that Disney might have chosen Zegler for this role to secure DEI funding. However, it’s worth noting that Zegler has voiced criticisms about the original animated classic and referred to Prince Charming as a stalker, suggesting their interpretation will differ significantly. Moreover, in promoting the trailer’s release, Zegler used the phrase “free Palestine,” expressing support for this cause.
Concerning Gal Gadot, she’s faced criticism over her pro-Israel statements on social media. Additionally, her actions during the pandemic, such as organizing a celebrity sing-along of “Imagine,” which includes lyrics some fans found objectionable like “imagine there is no heaven…”, didn’t sit well with many. The second installment of “Wonder Woman,” titled “Wonder Woman 1984,” was met with significant backlash by fans due to its perceived woke agenda, a departure from the beloved and successful first film.
