Back in the mid-2000s, if you were a youngster like us Millennials, you might recall the movie “Holes.” Released in 2003, this comedy was an adaptation of the 1998 novel by the same name, with Shia LaBeouf portraying a teenager unjustly accused of theft and serving 18 months at a juvenile detention center where, you guessed it, he had to dig holes. The film certainly had its quirks! It holds a dear spot in many hearts, and soon, a fresh group will have the opportunity to embark on this unique journey. According to Variety, Disney+ has secured the pilot for an upcoming “Holes” TV series.

In this modern adaptation of Louis Sachar’s cherished 1998 novel, a young woman finds herself in a strict detention facility run by a harsh warden. The prisoners are compelled to excavate pits for an enigmatic reason.

The upcoming Disney+ TV show adaptation of “Holes,” while featuring a change in the main character’s gender, appears to largely stick to the original storyline. However, expect some new surprises to keep things interesting, assuming the show goes forward. Ordering a pilot doesn’t guarantee a full series, so we’ll wait and see if Disney+ approves the production of “Holes.” For now, let’s refrain from speculating about casting and hope for another visit to Camp Green Lake in the future.
