The Doctor Who and Disney+ partnership is over.
After a lot of rumors, the BBC and Disney have announced they’re ending their partnership on Doctor Who after two seasons. There will be one more spin-off series, but Disney+ will no longer help make or show the program.
BBC Confirms the End — and What’s Next
The BBC has confirmed that a special Doctor Who episode will air at Christmas 2026, penned by the show’s current writer, Russell T Davies. Bad Wolf will produce the special alongside BBC Studios. Although plans for future seasons are still being developed, the BBC has stated that more details will be announced later and emphasized that the show will remain with the BBC, not Disney.
Lindsay Salt, BBC’s Director of Drama, expressed gratitude to Disney+ for their excellent partnership over the last two seasons. She also confirmed that the planned spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, will still be released.

Deal Covered 26 Episodes, Including Spin-Off
The BBC and Disney+ have finished a deal that included 26 episodes of programming, featuring two seasons of Doctor Who and The War Between the Land and the Sea. With Disney’s funding, each episode cost about £10 million to produce (around $13.3 million).
Even with famous actors and a high-budget production, the latest season of Doctor Who hasn’t been as successful as hoped, both in the UK and the US. Viewership numbers have been lower than expected, and it hasn’t attracted a large audience on Disney+, especially in North America.
