DISNEY LORCANA SHIMMERING SKIES Starter Decks Bring WRECK-IT RALPH and Evasive Joy

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I have to say that Ravensburger has truly outdone themselves with their latest release, Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies. Having dived headfirst into this captivating trading card game since its debut last year, I’ve watched it grow and evolve, and the fifth release of Shimmering Skies has taken things to a whole new level.

About a year ago, Ravensburger introduced me to the captivating world of Disney Lorcana – a trading card game that delves into the enchanting realm of Disney animated films. Since then, it has grown exponentially, and with the release of Shimmering Skies, their fifth set, the collection now boasts over 1,000 cards! Choosing the perfect mix for my 60-card deck is becoming increasingly challenging, as I find myself wanting to create multiple decks to explore every possibility. The sneak peek at the upcoming set only heightens this dilemma.

Shimmering Skies Emerald & Steel Starter Deck

The “Shimmering Skies” Emerald & Steel Starter Deck focuses on inflicting damage and subsequently exploiting your opponent’s suffering for your advantage. Its equilibrium left me impressed, revealing the vast possibilities of employing this ink duo throughout different game sets.

A well-played hand beats any single card. Yet, among my preferred cards in this deck is the Robin Hood Timely Contestant. It requires nine ink to play and can’t be inked further, but you can lower its cost by reducing damage on adversaries. Getting him onto the table isn’t tough, as he seeks four lore. Additionally, this card comes with a Ward ability, meaning opponents must confront him directly, and it boasts six willpower and strength. This captivating Robin Hood card motivates me to construct an entire deck around it.

I also enjoy using the Tug-of-War action card. It deals one less health point to every opposing character without the Evasive ability, or three less health points with Evasive. This packs quite a powerful punch. Steel cards are unrivaled when it comes to dealing damage without any resistance.

Shimmering Skies Amethyst & Ruby Starter Deck

1. Over numerous game releases, I’ve fine-tuned my Lorcana approach, yet its fundamental essence remains unchanged since my initial gaming days: numbers increase. I delight in embarking on quests frequently. The more lore I can amass during a single turn, the more content I feel. The Shimmering Skies Amethyst & Ruby deck has been exceptional in realizing this vision, offering characters with two or more lore and characters boasting the Evasive ability. Evasive characters instill a sense of invincibility within me (though I know it’s an illusion, as there are always countermeasures). However, when these Evasive cards remain unchallenged on the battlefield, that feeling is the most exhilarating. The Emerald & Steel Starter Deck did come with foils to prevent the Amethyst & Ruby combination from being invincible, but if I got fortunate with my card draws early in the game, I could make substantial progress in gathering lore.

In this deck, you’ll find prominent characters from “Wreck-It Ralph,” such as Taffyta Muttonfudge with various versions. New charming characters from “Frozen” are also included. Similar to the Robin Hood card I mentioned earlier, this deck boasts a formidable Olaf card that is quite challenging to ink. The cost is nine ink, but you can lessen it based on opponents’ exerted characters. He then embarks on a quest for three lore, making it a potential prize in multiplayer matches. I’m particularly fond of Bruni Fire Salamander. His Evasive trait enables him to quest for only two lore, and when banished, the player receives an additional card.

1. “Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies” is set to debut at local game shops, Disney Stores, and Disney Parks on the 9th of August, 2024. Subsequently, you’ll find it in mass market retailers and on DisneyStore.com starting from the 23rd of August, 2024.
