Disney Execs Were ‘Freaked Out’ by Chadwick Boseman’s Intense Method Acting on Black Panther Set

During the unveiling of the movie “Sinners”, filmmaker Ryan Coogler shares thoughts on the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who brought Marvel’s Black Panther to life.

In 2020, Boseman lost his life to cancer. Recently, Coogler shared with The Breakfast Club how Boseman’s passing deeply affected not only himself but also Michael B. Jordan as well.

Among all my co-actors, Chad’s passing affected Michael B. Jordan the most profoundly. Despite appearing to be around the same age as us, Chad was significantly older than both of us. He was a seasoned man from the South, a true embodiment of an old-school gentleman. Compared to him, Michael and I were practically youngsters when we worked together.

Coogler continued and said they thought about the actor while filming Sinners:

Chad significantly impacted my life. He was the kind of teacher who made learning seem effortless without you even realizing it. His lessons were more about setting an example and showing patience towards Michael and me. He took his time, always arrived early, and that’s the kind of person he was. Michael can confirm this – I often asked him, “What would Chad do in this role?” because Chad never rushed through a scene.

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve always been intrigued by the dedication of actors. Just like Ryan Coogler mentioned, Chadwick Boseman was so immersed in his role as Black Panther that he never broke character during filming, a technique known as method acting. This level of commitment had Disney executives a bit on edge.

In my account, I found myself marveling at an extraordinary encounter during the second week of ‘Panther.’ Disney executives arrived, and they were taken aback when they heard a captivating African accent. To assuage their surprise, I reassured them, “Don’t be startled. He’s engaged in his work; he doesn’t switch off until we wrap up.

What’s next for Black Panther?

Ryan Coogler is coming back to pen and helm “Black Panther” 3 for Marvel Studios. As of now, there’s no specific launch date, but it’s set to appear after the upcoming “Avengers” films, potentially hitting theaters in 2028.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but share the collective excitement among fans who are eager for Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios to consider recasting Black Panther. Yet, whispers in the cinematic world suggest that instead of bringing back T’Challa, “Black Panther 3” might delve into the story of T’Challa’s successor – the son who was introduced as a potential Black Panther in “Wakanda Forever”, taking over from Shuri.

What is Sinners about?

On April 18th, the period vampire film titled Sinners will be released. According to the official synopsis, twin brothers (Jordan) aim to escape their troubled past by returning to their old hometown for a fresh start. However, they soon find out that an even more sinister force is lurking, eagerly anticipating their return.

Additionally, Hailee Steinfeld, another Marvel actor, will be seen in the film “Sinners”. Notably, she has also announced her return to the Marvel universe in the upcoming “Avengers” movies.
