Disney Cuts Back on ‘Snow White’ Premiere

As previously reported by The Daily Mail, Variety now corroborates the news that Disney is making substantial cuts to the grand premier event of Snow White in the United States.

Last week, The Daily Mail announced that the initial showing of Snow White in the UK was called off and replaced with limited, closely managed media gatherings.

Snow White Red Carpet premiere coverage limited

It has now been discovered that the limited, tightly managed press events also encompass the U.S. Red Carpet premiere, as reported by Variety. This revelation comes at a time when Disney is reducing its scale of events amidst the ongoing controversies surrounding actresses Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

The afternoon events will feature a pre-show and movie screening at the El Capitan Theatre, graced by the presence of Rachel Zegler, the main character, and Gal Gadot, who portrays the Evil Queen. It’s anticipated that they will be in attendance. However, unlike regular Disney premieres, this red carpet event will not host the usual multitude of media outlets for interviews with the cast and crew.

Instead, coverage will be limited to photographers and a house crew.

Disney filmed the $250 million “Snow White” movie in the UK instead of Hollywood, so it’s a bit unexpected that there wasn’t a grand UK premiere on the red carpet. Typically, major films receive a red carpet welcome in Hollywood, where actors walk down the red carpet for interviews and photos with media outlets to publicize the movie.

Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot controversies

It appears Disney might be reducing its promotional activities to avoid potential missteps by Rachel Zegler, who has made questionable statements in the past. The Red Carpet event is usually held during a film’s release week, and if Zegler were to make comments that didn’t resonate positively, it could undoubtedly harm ticket sales, which seem precarious already.

Previously, Zegler has expressed criticism towards the traditional Disney tale, and she stands in solidarity with Palestine. On the other hand, Gal Gadot supports Israel and has spoken out against Hamas.

As a diehard Marvel fan, I was eagerly anticipating the live broadcast of the red carpet premiere for “Captain America: Brave New World.” However, my excitement turned sour when pro-Palestinian protestors arrived, displaying signs that read “Disney Supports Genocide” and urging a boycott of Captain America. Unfortunately, this unexpected demonstration led to the cancellation of the live broadcast.

With a limited number of photographers and a “house crew,” Disney can obviously control things.

Disney’s Snow White gets released on March 21, 2025.
