Disney’s television division is breathing life into an enchanting new series titled “Coven Academy.” This supernatural comedy-drama follows the journeys of three adolescent witches as they hone their magical skills. The show is the brainchild of Tim Federle, renowned for creating the award-winning “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” where a young Olivia Rodrigo shone brightly. Initially commissioned for a pilot in March, Disney has announced that “Coven Academy” will debut on both Disney+ and the Disney Channel in 2026.
Nestled in New Orleans, “Coven Academy” is a series that seamlessly blends magic, mystery, and the turmoil of adolescence. The narrative revolves around teenage witches who are fatefully tied to protect their city from menacing, age-old threats. The logline further explains that they not only grapple with uncovering ominous secrets, controlling powerful magic, and competing against irresistibly attractive rivals, but also deal with the heartaches and profound relationships that accompany growing up.
In this show, Malina Pauli Weissman plays the role of Briar, Tiffani Thiessen portrays Miss Graves, Malachi Barton is cast as Jake, Louis Thresher acts as Ollie, Jordan Leftwich assumes the character of Sasha, and Ora Duplass takes on the role of Tegan. Recurring supporting actors include Brendon Tremblay as Alexander, Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, and Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, characterized the series as follows: “Coven Academy” is a unique concept combining elements of supernatural mystery with the camaraderie, trials, and self-exploration typical of teenage life. Under the creative guidance of Tim Federle, this enchanted high school becomes vibrant with an impressive group of actors, furthering our tradition of producing stories and rising stars that resonate deeply with today’s youth.
In the pilot episode, Adam Federle took on both writing and directing duties, and he also serves as an executive producer alongside Kimberly McCullough and Bronwyn North-Reist, who holds the creative helm at Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions. Currently, Federle is working as an executive producer for another Disney project, the live-action comedy “Vampirina: Teenage Vampire,” which will make its debut on the Disney Channel on September 12.
Audience members are in for an exciting blend of teenage struggles and enchanting action, as the witches grapple with both ordinary hurdles and extraordinary dangers within the lively backdrop of New Orleans. Disney’s statement reveals that “Coven Academy” intends to captivate viewers who appreciate tales filled with adventure, humor, growing up experiences, all set against a fantastical universe.
The upcoming series, as stated in Disney’s announcement, is anticipated to offer an exciting mix of humor, enchantment, and adolescent drama, presenting the challenges and relationships among its youthful characters as they mature and hone their magical abilities.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’m an integral part of the 2026 lineup at Disney! Known as “Coven Academy”, this exciting project will be accessible on both Disney+ and Disney Channel. As a fan, it’s incredible to have multiple avenues to immerse myself in the captivating universe of teenage witches, all under the trusted Disney umbrella.
