As a passionate gamer, I’d say that Discord is undeniably one of my go-to apps. However, it’s not just a haven for gamers. This dynamic chat platform has become a favorite among numerous individuals due to its versatility in communication and content sharing. That’s why its popularity continues to soar globally.

The platform debuted on May 13, 2015, and since that time, it has expanded to offer support in thirty different languages. As of 2024, this platform boasts approximately 150 million monthly active users and 19 million weekly active servers. As of March 2024, Discord ranked as the 30th most frequented website globally, with a significant 22.98% of its traffic originating from the United States.

On the other hand, although many individuals regularly utilize Discord, there’s a concern that the platform’s popularity could wane due to a legal action initiated against it. The issue at hand appears to be Discord’s intricate and perplexing subscription methods, which are suspected of being in violation of the law.

On Tuesday, Discord faced a class-action lawsuit regarding its subscription policies. According to California consumers, Discord allegedly breached state auto-renewal regulations by making the process of cancellation overly complicated.

From what I’ve heard from fellow gamers and as per legal statements, it appears that many users are finding it hard to cut ties with their subscriptions.

The procedure for cancelling a subscription appears to be overly complicated, causing people to lose interest in doing so when they shouldn’t have to. In fact, it’s difficult enough to find step-by-step tutorials on YouTube that guide users through the process, which is certainly not ideal.

Canceling a subscription should be as easy as signing up for a subscription, and it is indicative that Discord has intentionally made this process too complex in order to demotivate people from doing it, and that is a practice that will need to change if the court decides against Discord in this situation.
