Director Kelly Marcel Explains the Casting of Andy Serkis as Knull in ‘Venom: The Last Dance’

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel enthusiast with over three decades of comic book adventures under my belt, I must say that ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ has truly captured my attention. Knull, the God of Symbiotes, is an intriguing addition to the Venom universe, promising a thrilling escalation in future movies.

In the most recent Marvel showdown, titled ‘Venom: The Final Dance,’ viewers are introduced to Knull, a deity of Symbiotes, expanding Venom’s cosmos. This new character develops into Eddie Brock’s main adversary, hinting at increased tension that could potentially heighten in future films.

Though the details of Knull’s tale continue to be enveloped in ambiguity, whispers hint that he could potentially feature in two prospective films: ‘Venom 4’ and an upcoming Spider-Man production.

In a recent interview, the movie’s screenwriter and director, Kelly Marcel, disclosed that they had been thinking about casting Andy Serkis as Knull ever since the production of ‘Venom 2’, in which Serkis was also involved as a director.

Marcel commended Serkis’s skills in computer-generated imagery (CGI) motion-capture and vocal performances, expressing, ‘He’s simply outstanding. We’ve always believed he was the best choice. We admire him deeply, and it seemed fitting.’

The decision to cast Serkis was influenced by his profound impact on the Venom series, dating back to his directorial role in the second installment.

The strong bond he shared with the production crew, coupled with his understanding of the creative trajectory of the franchise, made him an ideal candidate for playing the character of Knull.

In his famous part once more, Tom Hardy delves deeper into the intricate bond between Eddie and Venom, facing obstacles that steer them towards a pivotal juncture.

In addition, the film boasts an eclectic and vibrant ensemble, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, Stephen Graham, and Rhys Ifans.
