Director Christopher Landon Says He Left SCREAM 7 Due to Aggressive Death Threats

As a die-hard fan of the “Scream” franchise, I often find myself immersed in the chilling atmosphere of the first three movies when I need a bit of comfort while tackling chores or work. Now, let’s get real – I wasn’t exactly a fan of the Billy Ghost in the latter films and had my reservations about both of them. However, I still appreciate “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI”; they were good enough to keep me eagerly awaiting “Scream 7”. But lately, I’ve been having second thoughts, and it seems like this series might be under some sort of cinematic curse.

The most recent piece of not-so-great news comes from the former director of “Scream 7”, Christopher Landon, who shockingly decided to step down after receiving death threats. This latest development has me even more concerned about the future of this beloved franchise.

It’s common knowledge that the path of “Scream 7” took a turn for the worse when production company Spyglass Media Group dismissed its lead actress Melissa Barrera following her supportive comments for Palestine on social media, which upset many fans. This move sparked a series of unfortunate events for those involved. Not long after Barrera’s departure, director Christopher Landon asked fans to cease harassing him, stating that her termination was not his decision. However, this post was promptly removed, and Landon soon left the project himself. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Landon is now sharing his experience of how what was supposed to be his dream job turned into a living nightmare.

He disclosed that there were serious threats against him and his family, to the extent that the FBI became involved. The messages he received stated, “I will locate your children and I will murder them because you advocate for child homicide.

He went on to say, “The chief security officers at multiple studios and the FBI were forced to investigate these threats. They were extremely aggressive and downright terrifying.” It’s a real pity that he had to face such inhumane treatment over an issue that wasn’t his doing. The disapproval of Melissa’s dismissal by fans is one matter, but threatening Landon and his family crosses the line into something truly appalling.

Jenna Ortega explained her departure from the latest ‘Scream’ movie was due to events unfolding after Barrera’s dismissal and her desire to collaborate with Radio Silence, the creative force behind the last two movies. The production seemed chaotic, and the decision to resurrect additional deceased characters, some of whom were previous Ghostfaces, added to the confusion. Despite my affection for Sidney Prescott, it all seems rather disorganized over there.
