Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to! Din Djarin and Grogu, the beloved characters from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, are coming to the big screen in a new movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. This will be the first Star Wars film released in theaters since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
Dave Filoni, a co-CEO at Lucasfilm and one of the writers and directors on the film, explains that this new Star Wars movie stands apart from earlier installments.
He explained to Empire Magazine that the new film feels like a fresh start for Star Wars. “Episode VII was something else entirely,” he said. “We’re in a new era now.” Unlike the previous trilogy, this movie isn’t about setting up new characters or a huge overarching story. It’s a celebration of the beloved characters Mando and Grogu and their adventures together.
At the end of Season 3, Din Djarin (Mando) and Grogu found a home on Nevarro after successfully defeating Moff Gideon and restoring Mandalore. Pedro Pascal, the actor who plays Mando, feels the season finale wrapped up a major storyline but hinted at future possibilities. He explains that it allows Mando to continue bounty hunting, but now focused on helping others. Pascal also believes Mando’s bond with Grogu has made him a more compassionate person, inspiring him to fight for what’s right.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni say their upcoming film will be both emotionally powerful and visually stunning. They’re planning to use large, real sets, puppets, and stop-motion animation to create a grand experience. However, they stress that the story’s success depends on connecting with the audience through compelling characters. According to Filoni, if viewers believe in and feel for the characters, everything else – the adventure, action, and suspense – will fall into place.
A recently released still from the upcoming film features Din Djarin riding an All Terrain Recon Transport, suggesting some impressive battles and bigger action scenes are on the way. Viewers can expect the familiar excitement of Star Wars, all while seeing the continuing heartwarming connection between Mando and Grogu.
As a huge fan of The Mandalorian, I was so excited to see the brand new trailer featuring Din Djarin and Grogu! And get this – it’s coming to theaters on May 22, 2026! I’m already marking my calendar – you absolutely have to see it on the big screen.
