Scott Adams, the creator of the popular Dilbert comic strip, is in hospice and is expected to live only a few days.
According to TMZ, Scott Adams’ first ex-wife, Shelly Adams, shared that he’s been receiving hospice care at home for about a week, as his health has rapidly declined.
Shelly says she, her sister, and Scott’s stepdaughter have been providing full-time care for him, along with regular visits from nurses.
Shelly mentioned that Adams has been experiencing some confusion lately. Despite this, he recently recorded a new episode of his podcast, “Real Coffee with Scott Adams,” and even hinted that it might be his last. He openly discussed the possibility of not speaking to his listeners again.
At 68, Adams has been battling prostate cancer for several years. Last year, the cancer spread to his bones, causing him to lose the use of his legs. He shared with his listeners in May that his prognosis was uncertain, and in a recent podcast update, he revealed he’s been getting progressively weaker.
Adams shared on the show that his radiologist delivered very discouraging news, stating his chances of recovery are practically nonexistent. He added that he’ll let listeners know if anything changes, but he doesn’t expect it will.
He shared that the damage he’s sustained is permanent and is being complicated by other health issues. He explained, “I won’t regain feeling in my legs, and I’m also dealing with ongoing heart failure, which sometimes makes it hard to breathe.” He also indicated that January will likely bring significant changes, one way or another, and that everyone should be prepared for that.
Adams shared with his audience that he hasn’t come to any firm conclusions and that his health is currently his main focus. He admitted to having more pressing personal issues than those being reported, but also expressed a continued strong interest in current events.
Despite his condition, Adams revealed he is still working on new comics.
He revealed his cancer diagnosis in May, shortly after former President Biden made a similar announcement. Now, TMZ reports that his condition is critical and he doesn’t have long to live.
Adams has faced controversy recently. In 2023, many newspapers canceled his comic strip, Dilbert, following racially insensitive remarks he made on his podcast. Adams responded by saying the strip was canceled due to his views on progressive social issues, often referred to as “wokeness,” and he shared his perspective in interviews, including one with Fox News.
At its peak, Dilbert appeared in around 2,000 newspapers across 65 countries.
