‘Didn’t Want To See Any Red’: KJ Apa Reveals He Shaved His Riverdale’s Red Hair To Shoot One Fast Move

As a dedicated follower of KJ Apa’s career, I must say his journey from Archie Andrews to his upcoming sports adventure film “One Fast Move” is nothing short of inspiring. His commitment to his craft and willingness to transform himself for a role is truly commendable. Shaving off his iconic red mane to get into character for this new project was a bold move, but it seems to have paid off, as he himself admits.

KJ Apa portrayed Archie Andrews, the famous red-haired character, in Riverdale during its entire run. While he hadn’t started filming another season yet, he filmed his upcoming sports movie titled One Fast Move. Interestingly, Apa decided to shave off his iconic red hair for the role without much thought, expressing it as, “I just said, ‘Let’s do this.'”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he mentioned that during discussions about his character’s appearance, he chose to flaunt his natural brown hair in a simple style. “I shaved my head to eliminate all the red. I didn’t want any red hair or traces remaining. And it turned out to be a wise decision, I believe,” he concluded.

The actor shared with a media outlet that he filmed this movie during the gap between seasons 6 and 7, an “exasperating” process for him as he continued to ponder his character from One Fast Move while on the Riverdale set. He explained, “You’d often find yourself on the Riverdale set, thinking about another character you were going to portray next, and that could be quite frustrating, particularly since I had to shoot immediately after wrapping up that season.”

After wrapping up filming for season six of the show, he didn’t hesitate and swiftly found himself on set, ready to jump on a bike. Reflecting on that moment in Atlanta, he recollected feeling incredibly free and focused, saying, “It was like, ‘Now I can really concentrate on this.'”

Apa couldn’t stop gushing about his upcoming film which he claims to have come “at the right time.” When he met the director and writer Kelly Blatz, he knew he wanted to work with him instantly. “We really connected through the story and through our own lives, Kelly and I,” he added.

When discussing the movie, the performer disclosed that it held the “most profound influence” on him, particularly in his acting and artistic pursuits. He admitted that the creative journey of this film rekindled his passion for his work. He expressed, “My love for my role as an actor and storytelling deepened, and I found myself becoming more attached to my own life. I wanted to be more mindful and engaged in my personal existence.”

One Fast Move will be available on Amazon Prime Video from August 8, 2024.
