Did Zendaya Audition For Disney’s Descendents Franchise Many Times? Here’s What Former Vice President Cornelia Frame Reveals

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but marvel at Zendaya’s extraordinary journey through the magical world of entertainment. If you ask me about her near-miss with Disney Channel’s Descendants franchise, I’d say it was a stroke of fate that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While she may not have been Mal in those enchanting films, Zendaya’s star shone brighter than ever as she donned the Spider-Man suit and embarked on an adventure beyond our wildest dreams.

It’s worth noting that Zendaya came close to joining the Disney Channel’s Descendants series. In fact, Cornelia Frame, a former executive at Disney Channel, revealed that Zendaya had auditioned for multiple roles within the franchise and showed a strong interest in being involved.

In an interview with the Magical Rewind podcast, Frame mentioned, “Zendaya auditioned for Descendants multiple times, and it was quite significant.” She emphasized, “It was a significant opportunity. She auditioned persistently and was very determined to get it. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for her in the end.”

The ex-Vice President remarked, “Reflecting on it now, I find myself wondering, ‘Could Spider-Man have emerged exactly at that moment?’ Life tends to unfold in a particular way, and sometimes, missing one opportunity leads us to another extraordinary event.”

She pointed out that when a chance doesn’t come your way, it might open up another fantastic opportunity instead. When Descendants premiered in 2015, Zendaya was already starring on the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover, which had made its debut earlier in the year. She continued to act in K.C. Undercover for two more seasons after that.

In this musical fantasy movie, we follow the adventures of the offspring of notorious Disney villains such as Maleficent, the Wicked Queen, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil – all teenagers. This production was a massive hit for Disney Channel, spawning sequels in 2017 and 2019, along with a separate film titled “Descendants: The Rise of Red” on Disney+.

Following her stint with Disney Channel, Zendaya made her appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming (released in 2017). This was followed by Spider-Man: Far from Home (in 2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (in 2021). She has also been part of the Dune film series, and more recently, she starred in Luca Guadagnino’s movie titled Challengers.

In an imaginary Olympic event for celebrity fashion, Law Roach and Zendaya would consistently take home first place. Most recently, they made heads turn at a pre-Olympics event in Paris with a stunning black sequin dress. Then, at another occasion, their outfit hinted strongly towards the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics.

On Roach’s Instagram, Zendaya donned a vintage, multi-hued romper reminiscent of the Olympic rings – white as the base with blue, green, black, yellow, and red accents. She styled it with a casual bun and On Cloud sneakers without laces. Roach titled the post, “The games are about to start… Ready for the @Olympics!”

In a frenzy of admiration, I can’t help but share the astonishing ensemble that graced Zendaya on the red carpet! It was none other than an archival masterpiece from the illustrious Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, hailing from his 2008 Olympics-inspired Sportacus collection, showcased during Paris Fashion Week. Simply breathtaking!
