As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinematic brilliance and a deep appreciation for the transformative power of acting, I am genuinely thrilled by Angelina Jolie‘s upcoming role as Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain’s biographical psychological drama, “Maria.”
As a dedicated follower, I’m thrilled to share my personal account of working alongside the exceptional director Pablo Larrain on his upcoming biographical psychological drama, Maria – a film that has generated immense anticipation. In this movie, I have the privilege of portraying the renowned opera singer Maria Callas, a role that I eagerly embraced. Moreover, I can’t help but express my apprehension as I prepared to not only embody the character but also sing in the project – a challenge that filled me with both excitement and trepidation.
This week, Angelina Jolie’s upcoming film, titled Maria, will make its debut at the Venice Film Festival. In a recent visit to the festival, Jolie shared insights about the project, revealing that it required her several months of preparation before she felt ready to portray the legendary figure, Maria Callas, in the movie.
As reported by People magazine, at a press conference in Venice, Angelina Jolie revealed she was extremely anxious about singing in the movie and devoted approximately seven months to preparing for this role. The actress from “The Eternals” also disclosed that her initial attempt at singing made her apprehensive, but her children provided support by standing guard at the door to prevent interruptions, stating, “My sons were present, and they ensured no one else entered, allowing me to perform despite my trembling.”
Angelina Jolie, the actress known for playing Maleficent, expressed her thoughts regarding the possibility of recognition from awards for her performance. She emphasized her worry about how both fans of the late singer and opera enthusiasts might respond, as she aims to avoid any potential disappointment among them. Although she would be appreciative of favorable responses, her primary objective is to meet the expectations set by these particular audiences.
Jolie revealed that director Pablo Larraín initially trained her in a modest space and eventually transitioned her to La Scala, enabling her to hone her abilities and conquer her apprehension about emulating Maria Callas. According to reports, during a later press conference at the festival, she was asked to disclose her preferred karaoke tune, to which Jolie responded by stating that she hadn’t sung prior to this film and had never participated in karaoke, and jokingly added, “Perhaps now I have a few options!”
As stated by THR, director Pablo Larrain expressed in his festival statement that Maria Callas was considered the greatest opera singer ever, highlighting that she lived a distinctive, beautiful, and troubled life. Larrain further explained that the film portrays the events of her final days, offering a tribute through recollections, friends, and above all, her captivating singing voice.
Written by Peaky Blinders writer Stephen Knight, Maria will star Valeria Golino, Haluk Bilginer, Alba Rohrwacher, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Alessandro Bressanello. As of now, the release date for this upcoming biopic has not been disclosed, but Netflix is said to have acquired the rights to it.
