In her latest memoir titled “Brooke Shields Can’t Age Gracefully: Reflections on Aging as a Female Actress,” Brooke Shields disclosed that Tom Cruise extended an apology for his controversial outburst concerning postpartum depression, a matter they discussed during the 2005 Mission Impossible press tour.

That particular year, Tom Cruise expressed strong skepticism towards psychiatry during an interview on the Today Show with Matt Lauer. He also criticized Katie Holmes for taking antidepressants following the birth of her first child, labeling this action as irresponsible.

He stated earlier that the concept of a ‘chemical imbalance’ is not real, and what he means about Brooke specifically is that there’s been misinformation spread. However, in response to his remarks, the Blue Lagoon actress voiced her displeasure towards comments from someone who doesn’t have female reproductive organs.

She confessed that the public attack left her utterly astonished initially. If he hadn’t followed up with an attack after she had become a mother, she would have dismissed his outrageous outburst. However, the comment was made at a time when she felt particularly empowered due to her life experiences.

A year after the incident, I acknowledged his regrettable remarks with a private apology, something I wish he had done in public. Reflecting on it now, I can say that it wasn’t the most heartfelt apology, but given the circumstances, it was what he could offer, and I chose to accept it.
