Following an intense and captivating fourth episode in the third season of Yellowjackets, episode five seemed somewhat subdued, yet significant in progressing the narrative. However, it didn’t lack tension, particularly toward the closing scenes. This episode appeared to be gentler in nature, delving deeper into certain aspects of the Yellowjackets’ universe, such as introducing Lottie’s father and revealing a compassionate side to Shauna. Here is our recap of Yellowjackets season three, episode five, “Did Tai Do That?” that covers all its revelations and enigmas.
Revelations From the Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 5—“Did Tai Do That?”
Past: The Wilderness Wants Blood in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 5
Absolutely, we understand that the Wilderness yearns for something, but witnessing Tai calmly kill a rabbit is an incredibly powerful illustration of team members bonding with nature through hunting. The way Tai attempts to merge with the dying animal, offering it up to satisfy the wilderness’s hunger, creates a strikingly intense scene. This act underscores how killing transforms the characters in the Yellowjackets.
Past: Evil Tai Comes Out for the Killing
Throughout the entire episode, Tai and Van were attempting to coax the malevolent side of Tai into revealing herself. However, it wasn’t until a gun was held tightly in Tai’s hand and her intentions showed clear signs of wanting to take a life that the evil aspect of Tai fully emerged. This leaves us questioning what sort of entity this other part of Tai truly represents.
Past: The Girls Were Really Going to Kill Ben in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 5
Surprisingly, despite the verdict in his trial and their conviction, we hadn’t fully believed that the team was capable of executing Ben. However, in “Did Tai Do That?”, it was revealed that the Yellowjackets were indeed planning to line up Ben for a firing squad and carry out the shooting. This is quite shocking given all the uncertainties surrounding their situation. Yet, perhaps they’re trying to maintain control over their chaotic circumstances as best they can. If they had gone ahead with killing Ben, it would have been another significant boundary crossed by the Yellowjackets. However, their intention to do so also sends a clear message.
Past: Coach Ben is “The Bridge Home” for the Team
In a strange, gas-fueled vision, I witnessed a colossal figure reminiscent of Coach Ben, from the realms of Gulliver’s Travels, traverse a chasm that separated the wilderness and reality. From this extraordinary spectacle, Lottie and I came to understand that Coach Ben symbolizes a path back to our team. The reasons behind this connection remain unclear, but there’s a strong sense of conviction among us all.
Past: Shauna and Melissa Are Bloodthirsty and Together
As a passionate movie buff, I must say, the Yellowjackets never fail to captivate me – particularly Shauna and Melissa. There’s an intensity about them that’s palpable, and in this latest episode, it reached new heights. At one point, Shauna even proposes a chilling act: burning Coach Ben at the stake! But when they couldn’t carry out the deed, they resorted to something equally as unsettling – severely injuring his ankle and departing hand in hand.
Now, this leaves us with a curious thought – are Melissa and Shauna becoming more ruthless and intimate? It’s hard not to root for them, given their survival instincts and the bond they share. And honestly, as much as it might seem harsh, I can’t help but admire their tenacity and alliance.
Present: Lottie Was Lying About Having Nowhere to Go
In the current storyline of “What Did Tai Do?”, it’s revealed that Lottie’s father is still alive, though he struggles with his mental abilities. Despite telling Shauna she had no place to stay, it turns out Lottie had been lying about her situation; she could have lived with her dad but opted not to. Since we know she eventually died in the building, it seems there might have been some truth to her words after all.
Present: Sammy Thinks Tai Isn’t His Mother in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 5
In simpler terms, Sammy, Tai’s child, requests to see her but quickly distances himself. He then says to Tai, “Don’t you feel like you’re not my mom anymore?” This seems to imply that Sammy doubts whether Tai is indeed Tai.
Questions From the Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 5—“Did Tai Do That?”
Past: What Does Travis’ Trial Drawing Mean?
In the fifth episode of season three in the series ‘Yellowjackets’, Travis’ sketch reappears. This sketch depicts three figures observing a figure lying down. It’s a chilling image, and he claims it symbolizes the verdict from the trial. However, we can’t definitively interpret what Travis’ drawing represents within the context of ‘Yellowjackets’.
Past: Did Travis Really See Something in Akilah, or Did He Just Want Lottie Off His Back?
Prior to Yellowjackets season three, episode five, Travis had been quick to highlight Akilah’s link to the wilderness. However, recently, he appears to backtrack a bit, advising against venturing into the gas caves. Is it that Travis senses something in the wilderness or is he merely conforming to the group’s consensus? Similarly, was his interest in Akilah genuine, or was he simply looking for an escape from being Lottie’s sole project?
Present: Why Did Lottie Take Out $50,000?
Was it possible that Lottie had some inkling of the impending event, given her withdrawal of $50,000 prior to her demise? This question seems to hint at the possibility.
Present: Why Did Lottie Lie to Shauna About Having Nowhere to Go When She Could Have Stayed with Her Father?
In the Yellowjackets episode, Shauna raises an intriguing query: What made Lottie compel herself to stay at Shauna’s house? Was it just a desire for companionship, or did she possess knowledge about a potential threat that could affect everyone?
Present: What Is Walter’s Deal?
Is it possible that Walter is so deeply attached to Misty that he’s becoming entwined in all her troubles? His actions seem almost too perfect, which makes us question if there isn’t more to his character or intentions. Admittedly, he exhibits some strange behaviors, but we can’t help but feel that there might be a hidden layer to Walter’s personality and goals. Time will tell whether Walter is as genuine as he appears.
Present: Does Shauna Have Something to Hide?
In the third season, fifth episode of “Yellowjackets,” Shauna doesn’t hand over her hair as DNA evidence to Walter. One might wonder if it’s simply due to her thinking he’s eccentric, or if there’s something more she’s concealing.
Present: Is Tai Not Tai?
It appears Sammy believes that Tai might not be his biological mother, and indeed, this scenario isn’t entirely implausible. Could it be that an evil entity is temporarily taking over Tai, and if so, for how long has she been under its control?
Present: Who Killed Lottie?
The enigma of the moment persists: Who murdered Lottie Matthews and for what reason? Shifty-eyed Shauna seems suspect, yet she’s always been this way. Tai has suspicious gaps in her alibi. Is it possible that she’s the culprit? Or could it be someone trying to pursue Shauna relentlessly? We’ll likely uncover the truth this season on Yellowjackets, though not in episode five.
