As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for celebrity biographies, I must say that Cher: The Memoir, Part One is a riveting read that takes you on a rollercoaster ride through the life of an iconic figure. Her account of her tumultuous relationship with Sonny Bono, filled with secrets, jealousy, and intrigue, is reminiscent of a Hollywood drama unfolding right before our eyes.
To start off her memoir, Cher shares an experience where private investigators employed by her former spouse, the late Sonny Bono, trailed her. In “Cher: The Memoir, Part One,” she pens down her intricate past with Bono, who passed away in 1998.
In the turbulent phase of their relationship during the ’70s while working on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, Cher, at 78 years old, confesses her attraction towards a guitarist named Bill. In a moment of exasperation, she shared this desire to sleep with him to Bono.
In her book, Cher shares that from the moment she moved in with Bono, he had this persistent belief that she would eventually depart from him – a feeling he confessed much later on.
Although spending an evening with Bono, Cher eventually chose to part ways with him, understanding that doing so wouldn’t be straightforward. After leaving Bono, it is said that he expressed his displeasure towards America for ending their relationship. Ignoring Bono’s criticism, Cher remembers in her book that she sought refuge in her friend Paulette and Ridgeway’s room, where Bill was present as well. In a desperate plea, she asked Paulette to accompany her to the airport.
Concerning our upcoming business, Cher shared that she can’t quite recall the specific events or their order, but she found out that Bono had slept with Bill’s girlfriend out of jealousy and revenge the previous night. In response, Cher recollects asking Bill to join her in San Francisco after receiving this information.
In San Francisco, both Cher and Bill independently drove to the hotel they’d reserved two rooms at. Later on, it was discovered that Bono had employed private investigators to follow their movements within the city.
In her autobiography, Cher explains that although they had reserved separate hotel rooms for themselves and Bill, she wound up spending the night with him, an encounter that made her understand she would never share intimacy with Bono anymore.
The next day, Bono’s investigators located the duo, and Cher had to head back to Los Angeles for her upcoming performance with him. Unfortunately, the Sahara Hotel announced the cancellation of their scheduled concert, as Cher was struggling with fatigue.
Cher and Bono ended up divorcing in 1975 after a few public appearances together.
You can now buy the first half of Cher’s two-part autobiography at bookstores in your area. This book delves into the romantic adventures of the famous singer, but it also includes stories from her childhood and rise to fame. It’s an ideal read for anyone who admires Cher.
