After leaving Bono, it is said that he expressed his displeasure towards America for ending their relationship. Ignoring Bono’s criticism, Cher remembers in her book that she sought refuge in her friend Paulette and Ridgeway’s room, where Bill was present as well. In a desperate plea, she asked Paulette to accompany her to the airport.

In San Francisco, both Cher and Bill independently drove to the hotel they’d reserved two rooms at. Later on, it was discovered that Bono had employed private investigators to follow their movements within the city.

In her autobiography, Cher explains that although they had reserved separate hotel rooms for themselves and Bill, she wound up spending the night with him, an encounter that made her understand she would never share intimacy with Bono anymore.

The next day, Bono’s investigators located the duo, and Cher had to head back to Los Angeles for her upcoming performance with him. Unfortunately, the Sahara Hotel announced the cancellation of their scheduled concert, as Cher was struggling with fatigue.

Cher and Bono ended up divorcing in 1975 after a few public appearances together.
