It’s said that Ryan Reynolds was the creative mind behind the joke about his wife, Blake Lively’s legal matter with Justin Baldoni, which made its appearance during the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special.
The assertion was made by Wally Feresten, a veteran member of the SNL cue card team, during his appearance on the Fifi, Fev and Nick podcast on Tuesday.
In rehearsals, Ryan Reynolds proposed a new joke instead of the original one, as Feresten explained. This idea was actually originated by Reynolds himself.
Additionally, Feresten noted that the show’s crew takes great care to ensure celebrities aren’t included in potentially controversial jokes without their consent. He explained, “We wouldn’t want to step into anything questionable unless they were part of it.” However, a reliable source close to Reynolds has refuted this statement when speaking to The Post. Similarly, NBC has also rejected the claim as reported by Page Six.
At the 50th anniversary of SNL, Reynolds went along with his partner, Blake Lively. Sitting amongst the spectators, Reynolds later made an appearance on stage alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler during one of the segments.
Fey warmly addressed him as, “Hey, Ryan Reynolds! Everything okay?” To which Reynolds responded humorously, alluding to the ongoing legal issue with Baldoni, “Perfect! What’s the latest gossip?
During a recent interview on the Hot Mics with Billy Bush podcast on Monday, Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s legal representative, expressed his response to the joke.
Freedman stated that he wasn’t familiar with any instances where a man’s wife encountered sexual harassment and then joked about it. He further commented that he couldn’t imagine anyone behaving in such a manner, which is why the incident took him by surprise.
According to a source, Baldoni’s legal team could potentially utilize Reynolds and Lively’s public appearance and humorous comment as part of their defense strategy. The source added that Baldoni is treating this lawsuit with great seriousness and is not using it as an opportunity for public mockery.
