As someone who has closely followed the lives of the British royals, particularly Prince Harry and his family, I must say that the parallels drawn between Meghan Markle and Princess Diana are indeed intriguing. However, it seems that not everyone within the royal family shares this perspective.
According to a disclosure by royal author Tom Bower in his book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors,” Prince Harry has been noting resemblances between his late mother, Princess Diana, and his wife, Meghan Markle. In this book, Bower stated that the Duke of Sussex hoped to receive backing from the Spencers, who oversee the similarities between the actress from Suits and the former Princess of Wales.
According to the source, following his interaction with Markle, Prince Harry presented the U.S. native to his late mother’s sisters, Jane and Sarah Spencer. Bower added that Harry believed Diana’s relatives and associates would notice a resemblance between Diana and his fiancée.
In his biography, the author, who is part of the royal family, revealed that the Spencers generally leaned towards supporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when it came to choosing sides between them and other royals. However, Diana’s family didn’t offer any support for Meghan when she spoke publicly about challenges within the palace. Bower noted in his writing that Prince Harry felt let down because none of his relatives defended Meghan in this situation.
The author, a member of the royal family, expressed his feelings by saying, “He felt let down because no one saw any resemblance between his mother and his girlfriend. What made it even more distressing to him was that people believed Meghan wouldn’t be a good fit within the royal family.”
Bower continued by stating, “Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, expressed their shared discomfort. Upon William’s invitation, Spencer offered his counsel. Being a thrice-married individual, Spencer advised his nephew to think twice about rushing into marriage. This advice elicited a strong response. Later on, Harry would comment, ‘Establishing Meghan’s position within the family was going to be quite challenging.'”
Based on accounts by the author and biographer Omid Scobie, it’s reported that the Duchess of Sussex was wealthy and well-known, but these attributes didn’t sit well with members of the royal family. Additionally, Scobie provided insights into Meghan Markle’s departure from Hollywood. In a summary of her career, Scobie stated that Markle felt she deserved more than what she had achieved at that point.
A confidant from within the palace commented that Meghan Markle differed significantly from Princess Diana. According to the source, “She is primarily an actress, while Diana, despite her complexity, was genuinely sincere in all her actions.”
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to relinquish their royal duties and moved to California. Yet, tensions persist between them and the monarchy up until the present day.
