As a devoted admirer, I must say that Naomi Watts seems to have been incredibly open and meticulous in her latest book, Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I’d Known About Menopause. This captivating work doesn’t just offer insightful perspectives on menopause; it also delves into her personal struggles related to pregnancy during her time with ex-partner Liev Schreiber – a testament to her courage and candor in sharing her life experiences.
According to People magazine, the actress openly stated in her book that she wanted to conceive a child as soon as possible. Watts disclosed that her hormone levels made her unsuitable for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), but she opted to use fertility medications such as Clomid and procedures like intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Actress from Mulholland Drive fame openly discussed her extreme desperation, even going so far as to say that she would have resorted to eating her pet’s nails if told it could aid her situation. Watts detailed her methodical approach to monitoring her menstrual cycle and frequently checking her body temperature.
She explained having scans to monitor “the growth of follicles and maturing eggs,” and disclosed that they intended to become intimate at the “ideal time of fertilization.” Unfortunately, this method didn’t succeed for them.
In my own words, I’d say: As a deeply committed admirer, I acknowledge the truth that my relentless pursuit to start a family, which I refer to as an “obsession,” put a strain on my relationship with the esteemed star of The Perfect Couple. Yet, the dream of becoming a mother was so profound within me that I found it difficult to let go of this cherished aspiration.
Actress Ann Darrow (that’s King Kong’s character) openly discussed her careful approach to family planning. She regularly employed ovulation and pregnancy tests, sometimes even testing a mere hour past her expected period. Moreover, she paid close attention to the pH levels of her vagina, as she believed sperm thrive better in an alkaline environment compared to an acidic one. Watts also disclosed the significant amount of money she spent during this process, remarking that she would have been willing to risk her home’s mortgage to tackle this issue.
During the filming of Eastern Promises, she ended up getting pregnant. Actress Naomi Watts, who performed her own stunts in the movie, disclosed that due to a past miscarriage, she wasn’t ready to announce her pregnancy yet. She preferred to continue working rather than complicate things with the news of her pregnancy.
I can’t help but observe, time and again, how as a woman, I find myself taking risks just to fit in with the group. It’s almost like an unspoken rule, don’t you think?
Approximately three weeks into the production, during a shoot involving fellow actor Sinead Cusack, Watts disclosed that she initially sensed a gentle stirring. She expressed that this feeling was entirely novel to her and instinctively recognized its significance – the infant was showing signs of activity.
Watts wrote, “The baby was real. The baby was fighting and strong. My eyes welled with tears.”
To clarify for those not aware, the actress and Schreiber – who parted ways in 2016 – are parents to Sasha (age 17) and Kai (age 16), their two children together.
