Did Machine Gun Appear in John Cena and Awkwafina Starrer Jackpot? Here’s All We Know

As a die-hard fan of intriguing narratives and unexpected twists, I must admit that Jackpot, directed by the brilliant Paul Feig, has left me utterly spellbound! The film’s unique concept, set in the not-so-distant future of 2030 Los Angeles, where winning a lottery means risking your life until sunset, is nothing short of extraordinary.

On the 15th of August, the action-comedy movie titled Jackpot became available on Amazon Prime Video. This movie was penned by renowned screenwriter Bob Yescombe and helmed by director Paul Feig, who is famous for his big-name productions such as Bridesmaids and the 2016 version of Ghostbusters.

Monthly in Los Angeles, 2030, a lottery takes place with the twist that the winner must survive until sunset; if they don’t, the one who manages to outlive them (without using a gun) becomes the new victor and receives a prize. In this production, Machine Gun Kelly made a humorous appearance as a goofy version of himself. The cast also included Simu Liu, Leslie David Baker, comedian Bobby Lee, and Sam Asghari.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I recently discovered an intriguing detail: Machine Gun Kelly graced the silver screen in a movie, playing none other than himself. Early on in the plot, one of the characters dropped his name casually when referring to a panic room that was meant for Awkawafina’s character, Katie.

Toward the end of the movie, Katie and Noel found themselves fleeing from violent civilians, desperate to evade the supposed curse that came with their lottery win. As they recalled, Machine Gun Kelly had a panic room in his house. Upon arrival at the mansion, they encountered a perplexed Machine Gun Kelly. At first, Katie and Noel attempted to persuade him to enter the panic room, but he was reluctant. Eventually, they resorted to forcing their way in. Inside the panic room, they used a wasp gun to render Machine Gun Kelly unconscious so he wouldn’t reveal the passcode to the lottery hunters.

In addition, Katie’s eccentric Airbnb host, Shadi (portrayed by Ayden Mayeri), obtained the passcode following a series of threats and a slap that woke up Kelly. During an interview with The Wrap on August 15, 2024, director Paul Feig revealed that they intended to catch viewers off guard with this scene, as they hadn’t anticipated Machine Gun Kelly’s involvement. Feig also shared that the rapper enjoyed poking fun at himself and found the experience entertaining.

2026 saw a lottery arise as an appealing chance when the nation was once again plunged into economic hardship similar to the Great Depression. Everyone yearned for a life change, and winning the Jackpot seemed like it could make that happen. However, the joy of winning turned sour when the new millionaire found himself in danger, specifically targeted in Los Angeles until sunset. The movie opens with a brief appearance by Seann William Scott, who portrays the day’s lucky lottery winner and is determined to escape his pursuers. In a desperate attempt for shelter, he seeks refuge at his grandmother’s house but ultimately meets an untimely end. Ironically, this tragic death results in a $22 million windfall, awarded as compensation for the murder.

In the action-packed sequence, Awkwafina’s character attempted to seek shelter within a wax museum as she evaded her pursuers. The part of the museum’s security guard was taken by The Office’s Leslie David Baker. Moreover, Sam Asghari portrayed a Senior Agent at the Protection Agency led by Simu Liu’s character, Louis Lewis. In the finale, comedian Bobby Lee made an appearance as one of Katie’s admirers who trailed her throughout the thrilling day. Now, viewers can enjoy Jackpot on Amazon Prime Video.
