As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that I, Tom Felton, am stepping back into the magical realm once more – this time, right under the bright lights of Broadway! You heard it right, I’ll be reprising my role as Draco Malfoy in the stage play adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is a unique opportunity for me to bring the iconic character to life on stage for the very first time, following my portrayal in the films. It’s an exciting new chapter in the Wizarding World’s story, and I can hardly wait to embark on this enchanting journey with you all!
Starting November 11, 2025, Tom Felton, famously depicted as Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter movies, is set to perform at New York’s Lyric Theatre. His limited run will last for 19 weeks, wrapping up on March 22, 2026.
2025 Tony Awards saw Felton express to Gordon Cox from Variety his initial doubt about Harry Potter’s magic enduring through the years. “We had all assumed that the passion of the fanbase might dwindle over time,” he stated, “but it’s evident now that it hasn’t.
Felton is particularly thrilled about the live performance part. He explained, ‘What makes it exciting is doing it live. Filming a movie takes roughly nine months, but this is condensed.’ He continued, ‘Everything has been reinvented into a fresh, heartwarming story. And I get to play a dad, which is a blast!’
Here’s what Tom Felton thinks about J.K. Rowling’s controversy
Despite the enduring popularity of the Harry Potter franchise, as evidenced by its upcoming Broadway show and HBO’s planned TV reboot, ongoing debates persist surrounding author J.K. Rowling’s contentious opinions, notably her stance on transgender matters.
As a devoted fan following the current uproar surrounding the franchise, I personally find that this ongoing controversy doesn’t alter my perspective towards Harry Potter. To be honest, I don’t pay much attention to the discussion. In my eyes, it simply doesn’t have an impact on me.
In a discussion, Felton expressed how the franchise of Harry Potter has significantly influenced the globe. He shared his personal experiences, stating that during his travels, nothing else had managed to unite people as effectively as the Harry Potter series. Moreover, he acknowledged J.K. Rowling for constructing this magical world and continued expressing his deep-rooted gratitude towards her for it.
The performer has begun rehearsing for his theater character and studying the distinctions between stage magic and tricks employed in movies. During a meeting with the play’s director, John Tiffany, Felton revealed that at first he was hesitant to delve into the intricacies of the special effects.
Instead, the creative crew explained to him that due to the live action nature of the performance featuring numerous physical stunts, it would be mandatory for him. In contrast to movies heavily dependent on green screens and post-production wizardry, every aspect in this stage production occurs live. His enthusiasm was palpable as he looked forward to immersing himself completely in this unique, real-time experience.
