Oh my gosh, listening to Courtney Cox talk about Jennifer Aniston taking clothes from Friends sets and holding onto everything just makes me laugh and sigh at the same time! It’s so fascinating to see how these iconic TV characters live on even after the show ends, and it seems like Jen is a true Monica Geller when it comes to hoarding her costumes.
Actors often find themselves taking props or items from filming locations, especially when the set holds significant value. Just like Country Cox shared, Jennifer Aniston is among those who saved costumes and several of Monica’s outfits (portrayed by Cox) from the Friends series.
On Bella Freud’s Fashion Neurosis podcast, Cox expressed that her daughter, Coco, was upset because she didn’t save any clothing from the 1990s. In an open conversation, the seasoned actress admitted that she wasn’t fond of the fashion trends during that decade, and she could have taken anything from the set of Friends, but she opted not to.
Cox also mentioned that when it comes to her clothing items, she’d simply flip them over rather than holding onto them. She admitted to growing tired of the same things and disliking many possessions. In an open manner, The Scream actress confided that her wardrobe is not vast, and anything she hasn’t worn in a while gets discarded.
However, Jennifer Aniston’s situation was different from her former co-star. David Cox mentioned that unlike the “not the kind” platform Bella referred to earlier (meaning a cold, restrictive, or unfeminine environment), Aniston still had the same types of platforms she discussed earlier – those that are cool, free, and feminine.
In the course of our conversation, Cox mentioned that one of the wedges we used in “Friends” was taken by her co-star Aniston. She often reminisces about wearing some of Monica’s dresses from the show, and it suits her wonderfully. With her charming figure and endearing charm, she truly brings those outfits to life. However, I can’t help but ponder over why she would take that floral prairie dress from “Friends”. Yet, she seems to cherish every item from our time on the show.
Actress Courteney Cox shared a chuckle about an incident on the set of “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.” It seems her co-star once borrowed some of Monica’s clothes, amusingly recalling a time when David Cox attempted to emulate Jennifer Aniston’s style, but unfortunately, his attempt was unsuccessful.
Reflecting on the past, the actress realized she joined a bit later, while Jennifer Aniston, famously known for her role in Horrible Bosses, wore a jacket over a tank top, paired with jeans. Cox admired Aniston’s appearance and commented that she looked fantastic. Cox then added, “The shoulder pads on that jacket are quite striking. I decided, ‘You know what, I want that jacket.’
The problem arose because many people had previously owned and sported that jacket, including Aniston who might have been among the initial owners. By the time Jennifer Aniston’s character on The Shrink Is In show received it, the jacket had lost its original appeal or cool factor.
The actress said she later wondered if she should have asked her stylist, Mary, more about a jacket, as Mary had replied, “Oh, that’s not really the trend right now.” Looking back, the actress realized the jacket was pricey but she had already made her purchase.
The actress made changes to the jacket’s appearance by removing and significantly reducing the shoulder pads. She admitted that due to these alterations, she can no longer sell it; however, she enjoys customizing garments, either donating them to charity or pocketing the proceeds from the sale.
The actress explained that she enjoys selling items because she doesn’t want to keep them; she just isn’t sure why. She mentioned that she wore the jacket only once but couldn’t sell it as she had removed its shoulder pads. Cox suggested that perhaps the jacket could be “cool” again. The host inquired about the fate of the jacket, to which Cox replied that she gave it away, but she isn’t sure what happened to it.
