Did Ethan Hawke Want to Collaborate With Richard Linklater on Blue Moon 12 Years Ago? Actor Revealed THIS at Venice Film Festival

As an ardent admirer of Ethan Hawke’s illustrious career, I must say that his recent revelations at the Venice Film Festival about the making of Blue Moon with Richard Linklater have only added to my admiration for this versatile actor. The fact that he was asked to wait 12 years to play a part because he was “too attractive” is both amusing and endearing, demonstrating the unique bond between these two artists who share a deep understanding of their craft.

At the Venice Film Festival, Ethan Hawke openly discussed his collaboration with Richard Linklater on their upcoming movie. Hawke expressed great enthusiasm for being involved in the Blue Moon project, revealing that his eagerness to begin filming dates back approximately 12 years ago.

Discussing the film’s background, Hawke shared that when he initially spoke with the director, Linklater suggested they hold off for a few years because Hawke was considered too good-looking at the time. Additionally, Hawke and Linklater occasionally revisited the script together over several years.

During a discussion at the Venice Film Festival’s panel, the actor from Before Sunrise mentioned that the director expressed interest in the concept and planned to produce the movie, albeit not right away.

Hawke further clarified, “He’s saying something like, ‘We’ll make it, but we need to hold off for a bit.’ The reason being? He mentioned, ‘You’re still too appealing. We have to wait until you’re less so.’ I was taken aback and asked, ‘What do you mean?'”

The actor continued by saying, “He suggested, ‘Simply have faith. Let’s store it away for now, then revisit it occasionally every few years to check if we are prepared.'”

After his appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor from Dead Poets Society received a phone call from Linklater. On this call, the director confirmed they would be working together to make the movie.

53-year-old recalled, “He recognized me from an interview, I believe it was on the Jimmy Fallon program last year, and he phoned me saying, ‘Hey, I noticed you on Jimmy Fallon!’ I responded, ‘Oh that’s wonderful, how did it go?’ He replied, ‘Oh, it was alright. Let’s create Blue Moon.’ Essentially, he meant, ‘Go jump in a lake.'”

During the course of the conversation, someone from the crowd called out to the performer, expressing their opinion that “You look even more appealing now.”

Regarding his performance in the Blue Moon production, the actor stated that this role ranks among the toughest he’s ever tackled. He suggested, “It was one of the most difficult tasks I’ve encountered, so I’m quite eager for audiences to witness it.”

The mysterious performer also mentioned his deep respect for renowned directors like Francis Ford Coppola. He expressed, “I’m captivated by how Coppola sacrificed his winery to create that film; I find it truly awe-inspiring.” Furthermore, he stated, “I admire individuals who persist in nurturing the grand vision of creating something extraordinary.”

Blue Moon has wrapped the productions and will hit theaters in 2024.
