As a seasoned music enthusiast who has followed the dynamic careers of Drake and Kendrick Lamar for years, I must admit that the ongoing saga between these two titans of hip-hop keeps me on my toes. The recent rumors about a Cease and Desist letter from Drake to Kendrick regarding the Super Bowl performance have certainly stirred up the pot, but thankfully, they’ve been put to rest with Drake’s rep clarifying that such a letter was never sent.
There’s been renewed debate over the musical rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, which many thought had been resolved when Kendrick released Not Like Us. However, whispers about a Cease and Desist letter sent by an unknown party to Kendrick, asking him not to perform the track during Super Bowl LIX, have circulated online. The uncertainty can now be quelled as Drake’s representative has officially addressed these rumors.
According to a representative for the rapper, reports about the Cease and Desist letter are false. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Drake had no plans or intentions to send such a letter to anyone.
As reported by the publication, speculation about this matter began when Wack 100, who is both The Game and Blueface’s manager, made these claims during an interview. He suggested in a video posted by Livbitez that the rapper Drake, known for his song “God’s Plan,” was trying to have Lamar restricted by the NFL.
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts when I heard Wack 100’s response about the alleged restriction. He was asked whether he believed it would “hold”, and his answer was, “No, if Jay-Z is involved, it won’t.
Let me transport you to a past moment. During the ongoing rap feud between Lamar and Drake, there was an instance when One Dance received a Cease and Desist notice from Tupac Shakur’s estate. This was due to the use of Tupac’s AI-generated voice in his freestyle track, Taylor Made Freestyle.
In the letter, it was pointed out that employing the Changes singer’s voice constituted a “clear misuse” of his heritage. Consequently, the track was taken down from digital streaming services.
Once “Not Like Us” was released, it didn’t take much time for it to gain popularity as a hit song. Its lyrics contained some severe accusations aimed at Drake.
In the lyrics of a song, it’s been suggested that the character portrayed by Drake has been accused of having preferences for girls who are underage. The song contains lines such as, “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one / To any girl who talks to him and they’re in love / Just make sure you keep your little sister away from him.
The severe allegation was denied by the Degrassi alum in The Hear Pt6. In the song, he mentioned feeling disgusted and stated that he would have been arrested if that was the case.
