As an ardent fan of both Stranger Things and Outer Banks, I find myself utterly captivated by the extraordinary journey of Chase Stokes, who has now become synonymous with John B. The recent revelation of his near-miss with the Stranger Things team only serves to heighten my admiration for this resilient artist.
In a recent interview, Chase Stokes discussed his experiences when he attempted, unsuccessfully, to join the cast of Stranger Things, only to later reprise his role as John B in Outer Banks’ fourth season.
During an open chat on Podcrushed, the actor shared an interesting tidbit: He was taken aback when he returned for a second audition, as it turned out that the makers and the brand behind Stranger Things were sitting on the judging panel.
In the most recent podcast episode, the actor recounted the event in full detail. He expressed, “Upon entering, I gave my audition for Outer Banks on the very first day, and their response was positive and casual.
Stokes continued by saying, “The following day, Jonas Pate, our show creator and main director, walked in and exclaimed, ‘Hey, guess what?’ I replied, ‘What?’ He then said, ‘Guess what? They’re all gathered in the conference room. I didn’t want you to over-think it because I believe if you did, you might get too caught up in your thoughts.’
When the actor from Netflix’s series walks into the room, he recognizes the people there as those involved in the auditions for Outer Banks. In his mind, he doubts if he can make it through these tryouts. Stokes also felt certain that he would fail and asked the producers to spare him some time.
Upon feeling overwhelmed and defeated, I, Pate Jonas, stepped forward to offer a fresh opportunity to the actor. He reminisced, “Pate approached me, and it seems as if by some divine intervention, his gaze held an unspoken understanding.
He added, “Upon seeing me, he expressed, ‘I wish to collaborate with that child. At the moment, I’m unsure of the circumstances, but whatever version of you this seems to be, if there’s any hint of what you’re demonstrating now in that room,’ he said, ‘I will advocate for you.’
At the same time, Stokes mentioned that he tried out for the role of Steve Harrington, but it was Joe Keery who ultimately got the part.
In the upcoming season 4 of Outer Banks, John B and his crew embark on fresh escapades, unraveling maps and showcasing new tattoos. Simultaneously, they’ll strive to avoid financial ruin. Beginning October 10, you can stream Outer Banks season 4 exclusively on Netflix.
