The “One-eyed Flashback” is the 28th film within the Detective Conan series, and we’ve been sharing updates on its success in Japan ever since it debuted on April 18, 2025.
In our previous report, we mentioned that the film is currently smashing franchise records by securing the largest opening day and weekend earnings for the series to date. If current trends continue, it’s expected to surpass all other movies in the franchise as the most financially successful.
However, aside from its immediate impact, the film has accomplished something even more significant, which we’re thrilled to share with you in this piece!
Recently, we shared that the movie “Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback” broke the franchise opening-day record by earning 1.05 billion yen (approximately USD 7.4 million) and selling 690,000 tickets. Subsequently, we verified that it raked in a staggering 3,438,626,700 yen (around USD 24.15 million) over its first weekend and sold an additional 2,314,690 tickets, shattering the previous record previously held by “Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram”.
In just under two weeks since its release in Japan, the film has grossed approximately 6.34 billion yen, which is roughly equivalent to $44.39 million. As of now, this figure positions it as the highest-grossing movie of 2025 in Japanese cinemas.
As a movie enthusiast, I must say that although it may struggle to surpass the staggering 15 billion yen earnings of “The Million-dollar Pentagram,” this latest film has undeniably become a box office success. Even if it fails to shatter the franchise’s record, it will undoubtedly remain as one of the most triumphant installments in the series.
In his first directorial venture for the Conan series, Katsuya Shigehara takes the helm following his role as unit director on Black Iron Submarine in 2022. The screenplay is crafted by Takeharu Sakurai, a seasoned writer known for penning numerous Conan films.
