‘Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback’ Film Smashes Franchise Opening-Day Record in Japan

On April 18, 2025, the newest Detective Conan feature film, titled “Detective Conan: Echoes of a Single Eye,” debuted in Japan and has now begun its cinematic release. This is the 28th full-length anime movie in this series.

Following the remarkable success of “Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram” in 2024, which not only topped the franchise earnings but also became the highest-grossing Japanese film of the year and ranked as the 16th highest-grossing Japanese film ever, as well as the 14th highest-grossing movie released in Japan, there is a great deal of anticipation for this upcoming film.

Given the preliminary data from Japan, it seems quite possible that “One-Eyed Flashback” could continue the franchise’s streak of blockbuster successes.

According to initial data from Japan, there’s a strong possibility that “Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback” could potentially set another franchise record by exceeding “The Million-Dollar Pentagram,” but we’ll have to wait and see as the numbers are still being compiled.

On its debut day, the film raked in approximately 1.05 billion yen (equivalent to around USD 7.4 million), with a staggering 690,000 ticket sales. This impressive figure sets a new franchise record for first-day earnings. To put things into perspective, the previous movie made 960 million yen (around USD 6.26 million at the time) on its opening day and sold over 2.27 million tickets. The initial weekend earnings for that film totaled around 3.35 billion yen (approximately USD 21.7 million).

Currently, we only have figures from the first day of release, and it remains to be seen if “One-Eyed Flashback” will surpass the initial weekend record for the franchise by Monday. If this happens, it could potentially set a new series of records in Japan, which would be a fantastic achievement for the entire franchise!
