As a long-time admirer of Denzel Washington and his illustrious career spanning over four decades, I eagerly await the release of Gladiator II. The prospect of seeing Washington reprise his role as Macrinus alongside Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal is nothing short of exhilarating.
I, a diehard fan, can hardly contain my excitement as Denzel Washington prepares to share the silver screen with Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal in the highly anticipated sequel, Gladiator II! As the days tick by, I find myself eagerly awaiting every tidbit of information about Washington’s character, Macrinus. Recently, he’s been sharing some behind-the-scenes insights into his role and how it will contribute to the intriguing narrative that unfolds in this upcoming masterpiece.
During a chat with an entertainment platform, the actor revealed that Macrinus is coming back to Rome. He’ll be stepping back into the role he played in the earlier film, where he shared screen time with Joaquin Phoenix.
Speaking about his character in Gladiator II, the actor from Man on Fire explained that for the sequel, his character is manipulating everyone around him. He would betray even his own mother and children; he’s already sold his soul, so he has none left to give. Essentially, he’s in league with the devil.
The actor also commented, “Walking around, it felt like being in Rome with thousands of extras and horses. It was all a game, a joy, a laugh; just slip on the costume, don the dress, and go – that’s my perspective. Wearing this dress, these accessories, I’m losing my mind.
In the upcoming film, Mescal, set to portray one of the main characters, participated in an interview alongside the seasoned actor. During the discussion, Mescal opened up about the movie and specifically spoke about his character Lucius. Regarding Lucius, Normal People actor Mescal disclosed that at first, he had a distinct impression of the role. However, as time went on, he came to understand, “I’ve always pictured him like a stray, someone who would simply struggle to survive.
In subsequent discussions, Mescal shared that the upcoming movie holds significant value for him because it serves as a sequel to the Ridley Scott-directed film from the year 2000. This movie is set to release after a gap of 24 years, and keeping the original’s essence intact might prove challenging for him.
The Irish actor expressed, “I believe this masterpiece was crafted by the one and only person capable of handling it, Ridley Scott. As a friend and long-time fan, I consider it among his best works I’ve recently witnessed.
He expressed, “I am incredibly proud of the work he’s done, the work we’ve all done here, and everyone not present. I believe this accomplishment cannot be taken away from any of us.
Gladiator II is set to hit theaters on November 15.
