Villeneuve called Tenet a masterpiece and an incredible cinematic achievement. He found the film very complex but thoroughly enjoyable, watching it multiple times and being impressed each time by Christopher Nolan’s skill and mastery.
The film Tenet is a sci-fi thriller about a former CIA agent who learns to control time and must use this ability to prevent a catastrophic event. Director Denis Villeneuve considers Christopher Nolan to be one of the most talented filmmakers currently working, highlighting Nolan’s incredible skill and imaginative approach. Villeneuve stated, “He’s truly one of the best filmmakers globally, and people often underestimate just how masterful his work is.”
Villeneuve emphasized that Christopher Nolan’s films are best experienced in a movie theater. He explained, “I always make sure to see Chris’s movies on the big screen. Watching a Nolan film at home just doesn’t compare – you really need to feel the full impact of it in a theater.”
Villeneuve also commented on Nolan’s continuous creative growth, saying it’s impressive to watch him evolve with each film. He praised Nolan for constantly challenging himself technically and narratively, and for his ability to reinvent his approach, calling it deeply inspiring to witness a master filmmaker at work.
Christopher Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas, wrote, directed, and produced Tenet. The film features John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh. Nolan spent over ten years developing the core concepts, and the script took more than five years to write. Filming took six months and spanned several countries. Originally, the film’s release was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it eventually premiered in the UK on August 26, 2020, and in the US on September 3, 2020.
This film was one of the first big Hollywood movies released during the pandemic. It made $365 million around the world, despite costing $205 million to produce, making it a high-earning film in 2020, though it didn’t quite make back all of its costs. While reviews from critics were mixed, it did win an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and received several other award nominations.
