As a die-hard fanatic, I can’t help but gush about Demon Slayer – it’s not just the electrifying battles that capture my heart, but the poignant moments that linger in my mind long after the dust settles. Some passings seemed destined, yet they didn’t lessen their anguish one bit. Be it a valiant sacrifice or a bitter stroke of misfortune, these five deaths left me utterly shattered.

5. Genya Shinazugawa (Killed by Kokushibo – Infinity Castle Arc)

Before becoming a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Genya had endured hardships that were comparable to hell. Unlike other slayers, he lacked the ability to use breathing techniques, but compensated by temporarily acquiring demon powers after consuming demon flesh. During his battle with Kokushibo, he poured all his strength into the fight – absorbing blows no ordinary human could possibly survive – solely to safeguard his brother, Sanemi.

1) It wasn’t only the fact that he passed away that caused pain; it was also the realization of the depth of Sanemi’s affection for him and the regret over their damaged bond. Saying farewell to Genya felt like watching a demon disintegrate, making his departure all the more sorrowful.

4. Shinobu Kocho (Absorbed by Doma – Infinity Castle Arc)

Shinobu frequently wore a smile, yet beneath that cheerful facade lay an intense thirst for vengeance following her sister Kanae’s tragic death at the hands of Doma. Driven by this desire, she committed herself to bringing justice for her sibling. When the moment arrived, she displayed immense courage, but alas, Doma proved too formidable. He overpowered her, absorbing her into his own being while cackling as she faded away.

However, it was Shinobu who had the final victory – she had been subtly ingesting poison for years, making her body fatal to demons. Her selfless act weakened Doma sufficiently for Kanao and Inosuke to vanquish him. Despite her ultimate triumph, witnessing her agonizing death was heart-rending.

3. Kyojuro Rengoku (Killed by Akaza – Mugen Train Arc)

Rengoku was a man who exuded an aura of safety and security. He was robust, compassionate, and brimming with vitality, pouring his heart into every battle he engaged in. When Akaza emerged on the Mugen Train, Rengoku chose to confront him solo, standing firm even after receiving a mortal wound.

In those last moments, his actions embodied true heroism – keeping Akaza at bay until dawn, ensuring everyone else made it through safely. With a contented smile on his lips, he pondered on his mother’s teachings that instilled in him the responsibility to safeguard others. It was an unbearably sad farewell, particularly as it left Tanjiro and the others heartbroken.

2. Muichiro Tokito (Killed by Kokushibo – Infinity Castle Arc)

Muichiro, the youngest among the Hashira, never allowed his youthfulness to hinder him. He was remarkably powerful, capable of vanquishing an Upper Moon single-handedly. However, when he clashed with Kokushibo, he reached the brink of his capabilities. Despite this, he delivered a decisive strike that contributed significantly to defeating the strongest Upper Moon. Regrettably, this fierce battle inflicted fatal injuries upon him.

His final moments were particularly agonizing due to his young age; he was merely a youth, thrust prematurely into battle. In the hereafter, he met up with his twin brother again, who reprimanded him for leaving too soon, adding an extra layer of sorrow to his passing.

1. Mitsuri Kanroji (Bled Out After Fighting Muzan – Final Battle)

Mitsuri was among the sweetest and most lively Hashira, and her demise seemed almost unfairly tragic. In the ultimate clash against Muzan, she displayed immense bravery by fighting with every ounce of strength, even when severely wounded. Remarkably, after having both her arms severed, she continued to attack relentlessly.

In time, she fell into Obanai Iguro’s embrace, losing consciousness with wounds bleeding profusely as she pleaded for him not to abandon her. In her dying breath, she yearned for a chance to be reborn side by side with him, escaping the turmoil of war. The cruelty of it all – her desire being only love and contentment – made her death one of the most poignant in the series.
